Job description

Bering-Alaka`ina Holdings, LLC has a potential need for a Part-time Aerospace Medicine Physician to provide support for our government customer in Dayton, OH at Wright Patterson Air Force Base.
This position will have the potential of Some Travel within the Continental United States (CONUS).
DESCRIPTION OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide medical expertise for the Analysis of Waiver Risk Evidence team, AMWD, and associated organizations on the interpretation, use, and analysis of readiness, medical, and operational data, including in investigation planning, statical analysis, and development of data products, publications, and technical documents/presentations when feasible and in compliance with HIPAA and data use agreements.
  • Provide subject matter expertise in medical impacts on readiness, career and operations as well as in the internal medical processes of the Air Force and DOD.
  • Be responsible for analysis of medical records, as assigned for validation, verification, and construction of hypotheses, including but not limited to hypotheses regarding the relationship between disease states present at accession into the Air Force and disease/career progression.
  • Interface as a subject matter expert on the topics of readiness, medical, and operational data with USAFSAM/FE leadership and staff, other USAFSAM departments, other subject matter experts, as well as DoD professionals from multiple organizations, as required.
  • Demonstrate or acquire familiarity with Air Force medical records systems and standards.
  • Assist in the drafting of written communication for internal and external purposes.
  • Demonstrate or acquire familiarity with all relevant data repositories used as part of work, or which are generated in pursuit of work.
  • Be responsible for developing journal publications, bullet background papers, consult documentation, PowerPoint presentations, and other deliverables as required.
  • The contractor employee shall provide conference support assistance by active participation in professional conferences, preparation of posters and presentations, and publication of peer-reviewed manuscripts, in order to support distribution of analyses products.
  • Brief study findings at appropriate meetings or forums, as determined by the Government.
  • Assist in briefings and production of documents as appropriate to transfer knowledge of study products to customers in the AFRS and Air Force at large.
  • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

REQUIRED DEGREE/EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:
  • Must possess a minimum of a Medical Doctor (MD)/Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) degree, with 5-10 years of experience.
  • Must have completed residency training in Aerospace Medicine. Other related residency training, such as Occupational Health or Preventive Medicine, may be considered.
  • American Board of Medical Specialty - Aerospace Medicine Board Certified Physician is desired.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Must have expert knowledge in Aerospace clinical and operational medicine.
  • Must have a completed Department of Defense (DOD) approved Aerospace Medicine Primary course from the American Board of Medical Specialty - Board Certified Physicians.
  • Must possess excellent communication skills.
  • Must be well-versed in providing preventive medicine services, including comprehensive aerospace medicine/occupational medicine/preventative medicine.
  • Must be proficient in managing and completing organizational functions.
  • Must be proficient in USAF medical systems including: the Armed Forces Health Longitudinal Technology Application (AHLTA), MHS GENESIS, the Aeromedical Services Information Management System (ASIMS), the Automated Data System (ADS), the Aeromedical Information Management Waiver Tracking System (AIMWTS), and the Physical Examination Processing Program (PEPP).
  • Must be willing and able to sign a Non-Disclosure agreement.

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Knowledge of mission, organization, philosophy, visions, goals, objectives, and policies of the USAFSAM and 711 HPW is desired.
  • MAJCOM or equivalent experience as chief of aerospace medicine (SGP) is desired.
  • Publications in an aerospace, aviation, occupational, public health or clinical peer re-viewed journals is desired.
  • Experience/knowledge of the MEPS process for ensuring accessing candidates meet Department of the Air Force (DAF)/DOD Instruction (DODI) standards is desired.
  • Experience/knowledge of the DAF/DODI standards for accession and retention is desired.
  • Experience/knowledge of both current and historical AMWD waiver processes is desired.
  • Experience/knowledge of the Medical Evaluation Board (MEB) process in the Air Force is desired.

REQUIRED CITIZENSHIP AND CLEARANCE:
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Must be able to pass a Tier I/SF85 background investigation.
