What are Advertising Executives?

Advertising Executives are professionals responsible for managing and overseeing advertising campaigns for clients or organizations. They work as liaisons between clients and creative teams, helping to develop strategies that effectively promote products or services. Their duties often include meeting with clients, coordinating market research, setting budgets, and ensuring campaigns are delivered on time and within scope. Advertising Executives need strong communication, organizational, and negotiation skills to succeed in this fast-paced industry.

What Is an Advertising Executive?

An advertising executive handles the business accounts of an ad agency’s clients. Your main priority is nurturing client relationships and cultivating prospective clients. You must learn about your clients’ creative vision and advertising needs, then collaborate with the marketing department to design an ad campaign that meets the account specifications. You need strong communication skills to perform your job, as you act as a liaison between clients and the creatives on your company marketing team. You must also be well organized to handle multiple accounts at any given time.

What is the difference between Advertising Executive vs Marketing Coordinator?

AspectAdvertising ExecutiveMarketing Coordinator

Work EnvironmentAdvertising agencies, media companies, corporate marketing teamsCorporate offices, marketing departments, event planning firms
Primary FocusDeveloping advertising campaigns, client management, media buyingSupporting marketing strategies, coordinating campaigns, market research

Advertising Executives focus on creating and managing advertising campaigns, often working directly with clients and media outlets. Marketing Coordinators support broader marketing efforts, handling campaign logistics and research. While both roles require marketing knowledge, Advertising Executives typically have more client-facing responsibilities and strategic planning duties.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Advertising Executive, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Advertising Executive, you need a strong background in marketing strategy, client management, and campaign development, typically supported by a degree in marketing, communications, or a related field. Familiarity with digital advertising platforms, analytics tools, and CRM systems is essential for planning and measuring campaign effectiveness. Excellent communication, creativity, and leadership skills set standout professionals apart in managing teams and client relationships. These skills are critical for delivering impactful advertising solutions, meeting client goals, and driving business growth in a competitive industry.

What are some common challenges Advertising Executives face when managing multiple campaigns simultaneously?

Advertising Executives often juggle several campaigns at once, which requires exceptional organizational and time-management skills. Balancing competing deadlines, coordinating with creative and media teams, and ensuring client expectations are met can be challenging. Staying adaptable and communicating effectively across departments are key to handling shifting priorities and last-minute changes. Successful Advertising Executives often rely on strong project management tools and clear client communication to keep campaigns on track.

Job description

Legis1 Inc.
Legis1 is a next generation news and intelligence platform sitting at the intersection of technology and policymaking. We deliver systematic coverage, data, analytics, and insights covering Congress, lobbying, and the full scope of the legislative process.
Our powerful, feature-rich platform empowers professionals to uncover actionable intelligence, build meaningful connections across the policy ecosystem, manage regulatory risk, and stay ahead of the legislative developments that matter most to them.
Position
Legis1 is seeking a driven, commercially minded Advertising Sales Executive to lead revenue growth across our AI-driven news, data, and analytics platform - serving the U.S. Congress and the broader government affairs ecosystem.
This is a pivotal moment in Legis1's trajectory, and this role sits at the center of it. As Advertising Sales Executive, you will be a key revenue driver - originating, structuring, and closing integrated media partnerships with organizations that need to reach the government affairs community.
This is a quota-carrying, senior individual contributor role responsible for building and scaling advertising revenue across Legis1's portfolio. The mandate is clear: source high-value clients, design compelling media programs, and close deals that deliver measurable results for advertisers and meaningful revenue for Legis1.
The role requires a full-cycle seller with strong prospecting discipline, experience navigating complex B2B environments, and the ability to translate client objectives into multi-channel, measurable media programs spanning digital, content, events, and data-driven offerings.
Key Responsibilities:
Revenue Generation & Pipeline Ownership
  • Source, qualify, and close net-new advertising and sponsorship revenue
  • Build and manage a multi-quarter pipeline with clear stage definitions, forecasting rigor, and conversion discipline
  • Consistently meet or exceed individual revenue targets
Solution Development
  • Design integrated media programs aligned to client KPIs (awareness, lead generation, policy influence, market positioning)
  • Develop pricing, inventory allocation, and performance expectations
Client & Agency Engagement
  • Sell directly to senior stakeholders (CMOs, Heads of Public Affairs, Government Relations, Brand, Growth)
  • Engage with media agencies and buying groups where relevant
  • Lead all commercial negotiations, contract structuring, and deal closure
Execution Alignment
  • Coordinate with internal marketing, product, and editorial teams to ensure campaign delivery
  • Maintain accountability for client outcomes and reporting integrity
  • Drive renewals, upsells, and cross-sells across the portfolio
Market Development
  • Identify high-value verticals (e.g., government affairs, healthcare, life sciences, advocacy organizations, professional services)
  • Help with initial launch of AllCiv platform and targeting of user base and advertisers
  • Represent the portfolio at industry events, conferences, and client meetings
  • Provide feedback on product, packaging, and go-to-market strategy
Required Experience & Qualifications:
Sales Profile
  • 5-10+ years of direct advertising sales experience (B2B focus preferred)
  • Demonstrated success in closing complex, multi-channel media deals
  • Track record of quota attainment and revenue growth
Domain Exposure | Experience selling into one or more of the following:
  • Government affairs / public policy ecosystem
  • Pharmaceutical, healthcare, life sciences, or regulated industries
  • Financial services
Capabilities
  • Strong prospecting and pipeline generation discipline ("hunter" profile)
  • Ability to construct and sell strategic media programs, not just placements
  • Advanced negotiation and deal structuring skills
  • Experience with:
    • Sponsored content
    • Email/newsletter advertising
    • Relationships
  • Existing network across advertisers, agencies, or industry stakeholders is strongly preferred
Tools & Execution
  • Proficiency with CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce) and sales reporting
  • Ability to manage forecasting, pipeline hygiene, and sales analytics
  • Strong written and verbal communication; capable of producing executive-level proposals
Logistics
  • Ability to work on-site in North Bethesda, MD
  • Willingness to travel periodically for client meetings and industry events
Compensation and Benefits
  • Legis1 provides paid comprehensive health insurance with dental and vision, 401(k) with company matching, and generous paid time off.
  • Base salary $85,000 - $115,000 per year, plus uncapped commissions based on performance
  • Opportunities for professional growth and advancement within a growing portfolio.
