Position Overview

As a key Account Manager, North America, you will represent Hexion, a global manufacturer of specialty monomers and raw materials used in polymer systems for the paints, coatings, and construction industries. In this high-impact role, you will be at the forefront of maintaining and expanding our business across North America, identifying and securing new opportunities with key customers and strategic accounts. 

You will be responsible for driving profitable sales growth, developing long-term customer partnerships, and strengthening our market position. By building and maintaining strong relationships with both existing and prospective clients.

Job Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with chemical clients. 
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities within the chemical sector. 
  • Monitor market trends and competitor activities to develop and execute the sales strategies. 
  • Negotiate contract terms and close sales agreements with key clients. 
  • Prepare and present sales reports and forecasts to senior management. 
  • Provide exceptional customer service to ensure long-term client satisfaction. 
  • Collaborate with Technical Service to support customers in technical product developments. 
  • Represent the company at industry conferences and seminars. 
  • Global coordination for specific key accounts with major footprint in north America 
  • Collaborate with internal teams to meet and exceed customer expectations. 
Competencies
  • We are seeking a highly motivated and customer-focused commercial professional with a proven track record in strategic account management and relationship development. The ideal candidate will have experience managing key accounts within the specialty chemicals industry, including monomers, additives, or related raw materials supplied to resin, paint, coatings, and construction materials manufacturers. 
  • Success in this role requires the ability to build trusted, long-term partnerships with customers, identify opportunities for mutual growth, and effectively coordinate resources across a global organization to deliver value. A strong network and established relationships within the paints and coatings industry are highly desirable.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related discipline, with a preference for a technical background.  
  • 10+ years of commercial experience in the chemical industry is required. 
  • Highly motivated, proactive, and results-driven professional with a strong sense of ownership and accountability. 
  • Demonstrated technical sales and account management experience within the polymers, adhesives, coatings, construction, or related specialty chemical industries. 
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, presentation, and negotiation skills, with the ability to engage effectively at multiple levels within customer organizations. 
  • Fluent in English, both written and verbal. 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as CRM platforms such as Microsoft Dynamics. 
  • Experience leveraging digital marketing, social media, and other modern communication tools to support customer engagement is an advantage. 
  • Proven track record of growing strategic accounts, identifying opportunities within existing customer relationships, and delivering sustainable sales growth. 
  • Strong value-selling capabilities with demonstrated success managing large, complex, or strategic accounts. Ability to build and maintain multi-level relationships across commercial, technical, procurement, and executive functions. 
  • Ability to work independently from a home office located near a major airport. Preferred location is the Northeastern United States, ideally within Ohio or the surrounding region. 
  • Willingness to travel approximately 30% of the time throughout North America and internationally as required. 
  • Experience with international supply chains, including import/export logistics, is preferred. 
  • Familiarity with AI-powered business tools and technologies is considered a plus.
Organizational context:
  • The Account Manager North America will report directly to the Commercial Director, Europe & Americas Business Unit, who is based in Europe. 
  • Company headquarters located in Columbus, Ohio. 
  • A dedicated Technical Specialist for the Americas region will provide technical and application support to key customer accounts. 
  • The position requires close collaboration with cross-functional teams, including Customer Service, Supply Chain, Logistics, Technical Service, and Product Management, to ensure exceptional customer support and successful execution of business objectives.
