Staff Accountant
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Prepares internal and external financial statements by gathering and analyzing information from the general ledger system, the operating property, and from internal departments.
  • Maintains and balances an automated general ledger system by inputting and downloading data; scheduling necessary duties and tasks; obtaining and verifying data.
  • Analyzes information and options by developing spreadsheet reports; verifies information.
  • Prepares general ledger entries and maintains records and files; reconciles accounts.
  • Prepares payments by accruing expenses; assigning account numbers; requesting disbursements; reconciling vendor accounts.
  • Develops and implements accounting procedures by analyzing current procedures and recommending changes.
  • Answers accounting and financial questions by researching and interpreting financial information.
  • Provides accounting support by reviewing and interpreting financial information; converting data to general ledger system; obtaining supplementary information for preparing financial statements.
  • Protects organization's value by keeping information confidential.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
  • Supports accounting and company mission by completing ad hoc assignments as needed.
  • Act as back-up for payroll functions.

Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's Degree (BA) in Business or Accounting from four-year college or university, or equivalent education/experience.
  • Accounting experience in the Gaming Racing or Hospitality Industries and/or CHAE certification is desired
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to calculate and apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • The ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists and the ability to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form is required to successfully perform the essential duties described above.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft office including word and excel and Accounting Software. Experience with Peachtree accounting software is preferred.
