Job description

Department: Account Strategy  |  Reports To: CEO  |  Type: Full-Time

About the Role

Br8kthru is looking for an Account Strategist who can operate as a trusted advisor, client thought partner, and commercial leader within our account team. This role owns a portfolio of client relationships and is accountable for retention, account health, and thoughtful revenue growth.

The right person brings a strong mix of digital marketing fluency, business acumen, curiosity, and competitive drive. They do not wait for clients to ask what is next — they identify opportunities, challenge assumptions, shape recommendations, and help turn smart ideas into scoped, paid work. This is not pressure-based sales. It is proactive client leadership.

What You'll Own

This role is accountable for turning client trust into strategic momentum. You will be expected to understand each client’s business, anticipate needs, identify growth opportunities, and help Br8kthru bring the right recommendations forward at the right time.

Revenue & Growth

  • Manage and grow a portfolio of client accounts, with mature portfolio responsibility expected to reach $750K+ in annual billable revenue
  • Support portfolio-level revenue growth through renewals, strategic expansion opportunities, pilots, retainers, SOWs, and change orders
  • Identify, initiate, and advance expansion opportunities — growth conversations should be strategist-led, not only client-initiated
  • Maintain an active pipeline of strategic recommendations and qualified account opportunities across your portfolio
  • Protect scope and profitability by identifying when new requests require revised priorities, additional budget, or a new SOW
  • Partner with leadership and delivery teams to turn client needs into clear recommendations, next steps, and paid work

Retention & Account Health

  • Retain 85–100% of your client portfolio year-over-year
  • Maintain a monthly account health score of 90%+ across satisfaction and communication dimensions
  • Build retention through trusted advisory relationships and proactive strategy — not accommodation or avoidance

Strategy & Proactivity

  • Develop and maintain a current strategic roadmap or account plan for every client in your portfolio
  • Use curiosity and business context to uncover the deeper problem behind the request
  • Help clients make better decisions by connecting digital marketing recommendations to business priorities
  • Bring ideas, trends, insights, and recommendations to clients before they ask — anticipating needs rather than reacting to them
  • Lead strategic conversations around opportunity, scope, budget, and performance with empathy and confidence
  • Achieve meaningful client adoption of your strategic recommendations

Collaboration & Handoff Quality

  • Partner closely with Client Experience Managers (CEMs) to ensure seamless project execution
  • Deliver complete, high-quality briefs, SOWs, and kickoff prep that meet the Br8kthru MSS standard
  • Contribute to team knowledge by sharing new marketing trends and insights monthly

What Success Looks Like

In this role, performance is evaluated across three dimensions. The behaviors and relationships that produce results matter as much as the results themselves.

  1. Outcomes (reviewed monthly):
Revenue targets met, retention held, account health scores strong.
  2. Strategic Behaviors (reviewed monthly and quarterly):
Growth conversations initiated, roadmaps maintained, scope protected, proactive recommendations delivered.
  3. Relationship Depth (reviewed quarterly and biannually): Clients are bringing you into bigger decisions. They describe you as someone who challenges and leads them.

Who You Are

  • A competitive, proactive account leader who wants to grow meaningful client relationships, not simply maintain them
  • A curious thinker who asks strong questions, digs into the client’s business, and looks for the why behind the work
  • A credible client thought partner with the digital marketing fluency and business acumen to challenge assumptions and recommend smarter paths forward
  • Entrepreneurial by nature — you take ownership, see whitespace, and create momentum without waiting for perfect instructions
  • Comfortable hearing no, but not easily stopped by it; you know how to reframe, ask better questions, and keep the conversation moving constructively
  • Commercially minded and strategic; you understand how marketing investment connects to business outcomes, revenue, retention, and growth
  • Equally effective at building relationships and driving accountability
  • Someone who sees growth conversations as strategic acts of service, not pressure
  • Collaborative internally and credible externally

What This Role Is Not

  • This is not a passive account management role, a project coordination role, or a purely relationship-maintenance role.
  • You will not be expected to use pressure-based sales tactics. But you will be expected to identify client needs, challenge assumptions, recommend next steps, and help turn strategic opportunities into paid work.
  • This role is for someone who wants to lead clients, not simply respond to them.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of experience in account strategy, client growth, account management, client success, or consultative B2B sales — ideally in a marketing services, agency, consulting, martech, SaaS, or B2B environment
  • Demonstrated track record of growing and retaining client accounts
  • Experience initiating and leading revenue-generating conversations with senior stakeholders
  • Strong business acumen and ability to connect marketing activity to client goals, revenue, retention, and growth
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Familiarity with CRM tools (Pipedrive experience a plus)
  • Strong understanding of digital marketing disciplines and how they work together

Compensation & Structure

This is a full-time client growth role with a base salary plus performance-based compensation tied to portfolio revenue growth, retention, and account health outcomes. Specific compensation details will be shared during the interview process.
