The Accessibility Coordinator plays an important role in ensuring that eligible students receive appropriate accommodations and supportive services in compliance with federal regulations. Reporting directly to the Director of Student Development and Learning Access, this position is central to the day-to-day operations of the Accessibility office - managing student cases, facilitating the accommodations process, and serving as a knowledgeable and welcoming point of contact for students, faculty, and families.
This role works at the intersection of student support, regulatory compliance, and campus collaboration. The Accessibility Coordinator conducts documentation reviews, develops accommodation letters, coordinates testing logistics, and helps manage office communications - all while maintaining a high standard of confidentiality and care for the students served.
The ideal candidate brings experience working with individuals with disabilities, strong organizational and communication skills, and a genuine commitment to creating an inclusive campus environment. They are detail-oriented, able to manage multiple responsibilities independently, and skilled at conveying complex information with clarity and sensitivity.
Key Responsibilities
Student Accommodations & Case Management

  • Conduct documentation review for student accommodation requests
  • Present ideas regarding reasonable accommodations to the Accessibility team and determine appropriate student accommodations based on an understanding of professional evaluations and federal laws
  • Create letters based on templates and agreed-upon accommodations, and send accommodation letters to students, faculty, and necessary parties

Communication & Correspondence
  • Assist the Accessibility team with communications including emails to students and faculty/staff regarding accommodations, welcome emails to new students, and welcome back letters to returning students
  • Monitor and manage office email addresses (Accessibility@champlain.edu and testingaccommodations@champlain.edu)
  • Respond to questions from College stakeholders about accommodations; direct concerns, complaints, or disagreements to the Director of Student Development and Learning Access
  • Answer phones and respond to questions about the accommodation process from students and supporters

Testing & Administrative Operations
  • Serve as back up support for testing center operations such as scheduling and managing testing rooms for students using testing accommodations
  • Complete data entry for existing students and their accommodations

Outreach, Training & Accessibility
  • Meet with students and supporters to discuss possible accommodations at events such as Admitted Students Days, Open House events, Orientation and ad hoc requests
  • Facilitate educational training to faculty, staff, and/or students, as directed by the Director of Student Development and Learning Access
  • Create accessible versions of printed materials and assist the 504 Coordinator with accessibility audits and updates to office promotional materials, resource guides, and related resources

Requirements
  • Experience working with diverse populations, including individuals with disabilities
  • Strong written, verbal, and electronic communication skills, with sensitivity to issues of diversity
