Job description

Under general supervision, tutors and assists students in a variety of academic areas, individually or in small groups, to help them master assignments and to reinforce learning concepts presented by classroom teachers. Discuss assigned duties with classroom teachers to coordinate instructional efforts.

-Follows rules and procedures. Decisions can have minimal or no impact to HISD. Errors can be readily detected, usually by the employee, and, if made, would result in minor expense for correction.

-Basic communication - very little communication required such as receiving basic instructions. Interactions are mostly with customers, own supervisor, and co-workers in own department.

CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIPS

-Follows through with customer inquiries, requests, and complaints. Forwards difficult and non-routine inquiries or requests to appropriate level for resolution.

WORKING/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

-Work is normally performed in a typical interior work environment which does not subject the employee to any hazardous or unpleasant elements. Ability to carry and/or lift less than 15 pounds.

Responsibilities

  1. Performs all the duties of an academic tutor and assists students in the development of advanced learning skills and a variety of progressively complex academic areas.
  2. Observes students' performance and records relevant data to assess progress.
  3. Coordinates and connects with classroom teachers to prepare instructional activities that aide in mastering specific skills, subject matter content, homework, extra assignments and the state mandated tests. Instructs and monitors students in the use and care of equipment and materials to prevent injuries and damage.
  4. Presents subject matter to students under the direction and guidance of teachers, using lectures, discussions, or supervised role-playing methods. Schedules parent meetings and implements home visits to assist students and families as needed.
  5. Enforces administration policies and rules governing students.
  6. Other duties as assigned.
