American Glass Research is seeking an Analytical Chemist to work at its laboratory in Maumee, Ohio.

The successful candidate will be a self-motivated professional, with strong attention to detail.

Under general direction of the supervisor, the person in this position will conduct inorganic analyses for the determination of the composition of glass and raw materials, prepare samples for testing using grinding and homogenization equipment, and follow relevant laboratory SOPs.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience preparing analytical reagents, solutions, and standards.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, and Access).

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct inorganic analyses using a variety of wet chemistry and instrumental test methods. Instrumentation to be used includes ion chromatography, spectroscopy (WDXRF, UV-VIS, AA, ICP-OES), particle size analysis, auto-titrators, and pH/conductivity meters.
  • Maintain accurate records of analytical activities.
  • Skill to perform mathematical calculations necessary to prepare chemical solutions at specific concentrations and to calculate concentrations of detected analytes in samples.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment, work environment, supplies, and glassware. Promote good housekeeping and laboratory safety.
  • Have good written and verbal communication skills; read and understand verbal and written policies, procedures, and safety requirements.
  • Work efficiently, minimizing distractions and managing time to accomplish work by expected deadlines.
