Structural Project Engineer
Job Description
The Structural Project Engineer is responsible for reviewing and validating structural designs, coordinating engineering activities, and managing subcontractors and vendors for industrial equipment projects. This role supports equipment support structures, steel design, foundation interfaces, and project execution while ensuring quality, schedule, and technical requirements are met.
Responsibilities
- Review and validate structural designs, calculations, and construction documents.
- Coordinate engineering activities and manage subcontractors and vendors.
- Support equipment support structures, steel design, and foundation interfaces.
- Ensure project quality, schedule, and technical requirements are met.
- Coordinate multiple stakeholders, including engineering consultants, contractors, and equipment vendors.
- Manage project priorities while maintaining quality and schedule commitments.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or related engineering discipline.
- 8+ years of structural engineering experience in industrial, manufacturing, process, or heavy industrial environments.
- Proficiency with structural analysis software such as STAAD.Pro or equivalent analysis platforms.
- Experience designing or reviewing industrial equipment support structures and structural steel systems.
- Strong understanding of structural steel design, load path analysis, and applicable building codes.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD or similar drafting software.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience supporting foundation design and foundation interfaces for industrial equipment installations.
- Previous experience with air pollution control equipment, process equipment, pressure vessels, ductwork, tanks, or similar industrial systems.
- Experience managing direct reports or leading engineering/design teams.
- Knowledge of procurement processes, bid package development, and subcontract administration.
- Familiarity with construction support activities and field coordination.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license is not required, though candidates with licensure are welcome to apply.
- Experience working within EPC, design-build, or custom-engineered equipment environments is preferred.
Work Environment
Office-based engineering environment with regular collaboration across engineering disciplines. Frequent interaction with vendors, subcontractors, contractors, and consulting engineering firms. Occasional travel to project sites, fabrication facilities, or customer locations may be required (less than 5% travel). Fast-paced project environment requiring strong organizational and coordination skills. Opportunity to support complex industrial projects from design review through fabrication and installation.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Columbus, OH.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $100000.00 - $112000.00/hr.
