St. Brendan School is seeking a full-time Reading Specialist who is deeply committed to evidence-based, structured literacy approaches to support, supplement, and extend classroom teaching. This educator works collaboratively to implement a high-quality, research-based reading program that meets the unique needs of our students. The ideal candidate brings a passion for literacy assessment and instruction and a strong desire to work within a dedicated educational team and school community.
Key Responsibilities
Instructional Support
Supplement daily classroom literacy teaching.
Extend learning for targeted student groups.
Collaborate with teachers on research-based strategies.
Implement high-quality, evidence-based reading programs.
Meet the diverse learning needs of all students.
Assessment & Diagnosis
Utilize specialized knowledge of literacy assessment tools.
Diagnose specific student reading strengths and weaknesses.
Design individualized intervention instruction plans based on data.
Evaluate the overall effectiveness of the literacy program.
Share diagnostic data with teachers and parents.
Partner with psychologists, special educators, and speech therapists.
Leadership & Community Resource
Provide leadership as a school-wide literacy expert.
Mentor classroom teachers on best reading practices.
Act as a resource for parents regarding home literacy.
Engage the community in literacy initiatives and education.
Qualifications
• Master's or Bachelor's degree in Reading, Literacy, or Education preferred.
• Structured literacy training preferred
• Experience teaching reading in a school setting preferred
• Commitment to supporting the academic and spiritual mission of St. Brendan School.
Requirements:
  • Hold an appropriate Ohio Teaching License (Professional, Permanent, or Resident Educator) or be eligible to obtain one before beginning to teach
  • Current satisfactory BCI & FBI background checks
  • Have attended or be willing to attend a Virtus Protecting God's Children training

  2. Religious Education certification as required by the diocese

RESPONSIBLE TO: Principal
JOB GOAL: To assist students in mastering the skills and information in the school curriculum while helping them to grow in faith and responsibility.

  1. Teachers in the Catholic Schools of the Diocese of Columbus know, understand and contribute to the integration of Catholic teachings and virtues throughout the curriculum and school culture as it supports faith formation and student learning.
