Job description

Overview:
The Division of Pulmonary and Sleep Medicine in the Department of Pediatrics at Nationwide Children's Hospital (NCH) and The Ohio State University College of Medicine (OSUCOM) in Columbus, Ohio is seeking a sleep specialist to join our faculty in Pediatric Sleep Disorder Center. This candidate should be at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor. We seek a clinician or clinical researcher who is board eligible or certified in Sleep Medicine.
The Sleep Medicine group includes 4 pediatric pulmonologists, 1 pediatric psychiatrist, 3 pediatric psychologists, 1 pediatric intensivist, and 1 pediatric neurologist, all trained in Sleep Medicine. The sleep center supports a dedicated sleep outpatient clinic, inpatient consult service, and sleep laboratory. Our sleep clinics see roughly 3500 outpatient visits annually and we have two AASM accredited sleep laboratories with total 14 beds, which completes roughly NANA 3000 polysomnographic studies annually.
The multidisciplinary staff include respiratory therapists, sleep technologists, nurses, and nurse practitioners. Opportunity exists for the candidate to see patients in the sleep clinics as well as serving as the attending on the consultation services. Dedicated multidisciplinary clinics are held for the following disorders:
  • Behavioral Insomnia
  • Hypersomnia
  • Complex Obstructive Sleep Apnea
  • Prader -Willi Syndrome
  • Positive Airway Pressure Dependent
  • Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome

The successful candidate will have opportunity to participate in all clinical, research and academic activities within the sleep disorders center at NCH.
Academically, Sleep Medicine faculty works closely with the sleep and neurophysiology fellowships at OSUCOM to provide their fellows with pediatric sleep training, as well as supporting joint conferences and research activities. Annually, NCH trains 160 categorical pediatrics and internal medicine/pediatrics residents and is the site for all pediatric medical education within the OSUCOM.

Essential Functions:
  • Conducts patient assessments and diagnoses medical conditions.
  • Develops and implements treatment plans for patients in accordance with established protocols. Monitors patient progress and adjusts treatment plans as necessary.
  • Orders and interprets diagnostic tests to aid in patient diagnosis and treatment.
  • Communicates with patients and their families to provide education and support.
  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date medical records for each patient and coordinates care with other healthcare professionals.
  • Participates in the training and education of medical students, residents, and fellows as required.
  • Stays up-to-date with medical advancements and research to provide the best possible care.

Education Requirement:
  • Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine equivalent, required.
  • Graduate of an approved Fellowship program if applicable, required.

Licensure Requirement:
  • Medical License in the State of Ohio, required.
  • Unrestricted licensed physician, required.

Board Certification or eligibility in Pediatrics, required.
