Job description

Fortuna Bank is seeking a detail-oriented and self-motivated Commercial Loan Specialist to support the Bank's commercial lending activities. This position plays a key role in the loan origination and portfolio management process by assisting with loan applications, collecting and reviewing due diligence documentation, preparing loan documentation packages, coordinating closings, and supporting ongoing portfolio monitoring activities.

As a growing de novo community bank, the ideal candidate will be flexible, organized, and capable of working across multiple areas of the lending function while providing exceptional service to both internal and external customers.

Fortuna Bank will consider both full-time and part-time candidates for this role and is committed to identifying the best talent to support the Bank's lending operations.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Loan Application and Origination Support

  • Assist lenders in gathering information necessary to complete commercial loan applications.
  • Collect and review financial statements, tax returns, organizational documents, and other credit-related information.
  • Order and track third-party reports.
  • Follow up with borrowers and third parties to obtain outstanding documentation.
  • Maintain accurate loan files throughout the underwriting and approval process.
  • Assist with preparation of loan approval packages and supporting documentation.

Loan Closing and Documentation

  • Prepare loan documentation using LaserPro.
  • Review loan documentation for accuracy and completeness.
  • Coordinate loan closings with borrowers, attorneys, title companies, and internal staff.
  • Ensure all approval conditions are satisfied prior to funding.
  • Verify collateral perfection requirements are completed.
  • Coordinate boarding of approved loans into the core system.

Portfolio Monitoring and Servicing

  • Monitor receipt of required financial information, borrowing base reports, tax returns, and covenant compliance documentation.
  • Track exceptions and follow up with borrowers regarding missing documents.
  • Assist with annual and periodic loan reviews.
  • Monitor insurance expirations and collateral documentation.
  • Prepare portfolio monitoring reports and exception reports.
  • Update loan servicing records and imaging systems as necessary.
  • Assist with problem loan administration and collection of requested borrower information.

Administrative and Operational Support

  • Maintain electronic and physical loan files.
  • Ensure compliance with Bank policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Support internal and external audits, loan reviews, and examinations.
  • Assist with special projects and process improvement initiatives.
  • Provide excellent customer service to borrowers and business partners.


Qualifications

Required

  • Minimum 2 years of commercial lending, loan processing, loan operations, or credit administration experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience using LaserPro loan documentation software.
  • Strong knowledge of commercial loan documentation and closing requirements.
  • Experience reviewing business financial statements and borrower documentation.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.

Preferred

  • Experience with Fiserv core banking systems.
  • Experience with Baker Hill loan origination and credit underwriting software.
  • Prior experience working in a community bank environment.
  • Knowledge of commercial collateral perfection requirements.
  • Experience supporting SBA lending activities.
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, Accounting, or a related field.
