Job description

Piano Lessons In Your Home has been providing high-quality, in-home music instruction for over 30 years. With a long-standing presence in the Columbus area and beyond, we are known for thoughtful student placements, instructor autonomy, and a reputation built on consistency and trust. Many of our instructors work with us for years, valuing our stable student flow and hands-off, instructor-first approach.

Position Overview

Piano Lessons In Your Home (PLIYH) is seeking experienced piano instructors to join our Columbus-area teaching team. Instructors teach students in their homes and retain full control over their schedules, availability, and routing. Proficiency in additional instruments (voice, guitar, violin) is a plus but not required.

This is a part-time independent contractor role ideal for instructors who value flexibility, autonomy, and a steady flow of students without administrative burden.

What We Offer

  • Pay: $44–$50 per teaching hour, based on experience, availability, and location.
  • Flexible scheduling: You choose when and how much you teach
  • Autonomy: You manage your own schedule and communication with families
  • Consistent student demand: Ongoing student offerings and active waitlists
  • Low administrative burden: We handle billing, onboarding, and support
  • Regular compensation review

How It Works

  • You set your availability and preferred teaching area
  • We offer you students that fit your schedule and preferred teaching areas
  • Once lessons are underway, you teach independently — we step in only when needed
  • You invoice semi-monthly and track lessons through our online system

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Strong musical background (degree and/or equivalent professional experience)
  • Prior teaching experience preferred (training available for strong candidates)
  • Reliable transportation for in-home lessons
  • Comfortable teaching students of varying ages and levels
  • Professional, punctual, and communicative
  • Coordinate and lead one annual recital for your own students, with administrative support provided

Ideal Candidates

  • Want control over their schedule and student load
  • Prefer teaching over marketing and administrative work
  • Are building or maintaining a private teaching portfolio
  • Value consistency, reliability, and support without micromanagement
