Job Summary
Vertiv is seeking a technically skilled and self-directed Developer Productivity Engineer to serve as the enterprise owner of developer tooling strategy, AI-powered IDE rollout, and engineering productivity within Vertiv's Digital organization. This individual contributor role is responsible for supporting the enterprise-wide rollout of Cursor, including licensing, onboarding, training, and change management, while also owning the broader developer tooling ecosystem across the full software delivery lifecycle. The Developer Productivity Engineer will operate within the Digital organization and play a central role in advancing Vertiv's Operational Excellence and High-Performance Culture strategic priorities by accelerating engineering velocity, reducing workflow friction, and increasing the measurable impact of developer tooling investments across engineering teams.
As an individual contributor in a lead capacity, this role includes defining, instrumenting, and reporting on engineering productivity metrics, which can include DORA metrics, deployment frequency, AI tool utilization, and developer satisfaction, in order to inform leadership decisions and demonstrate the ROI of developer experience (DX) investments. The Developer Productivity Engineer will champion the adoption of AI-augmented development practices, evaluate and govern developer tooling from IDEs and CI/CD platforms to observability and code quality tooling, and serve as Vertiv's subject matter expert on developer experience.
This position partners closely with technology and business teams across the organization, and is based on site at Vertiv's Westerville, OH headquarters.
Responsibilities:
  • Cursor Rollout & Adoption: Lead the enterprise rollout and adoption of Cursor as Vertiv's AI-powered IDE, including training and change management for engineering teams across the organization.
  • Developer Tooling Strategy: Own and evolve Vertiv's developer tooling ecosystem - evaluating, onboarding, and governing tools across the full SDLC (IDEs, code review, CI/CD, testing, observability, etc) to ensure the toolchain is current and aligned to enterprise architecture standards.
  • Engineering Metrics & Reporting: Define, instrument, and report on engineering productivity metrics, providing leadership with data-driven insights to guide investment and improvement decisions.
  • Developer Experience (DX) Optimization: Identify and eliminate friction points in the developer workflow, whether it be from local development environments o CI/CD pipelines, to measurably improve engineering speed, delivery quality, and developer satisfaction across development teams.
  • CI/CD & Platform Support: Collaborate with engineering and platform teams to optimize CI/CD pipelines and developer environments for reliability and performance, ensuring engineering teams can deliver software with speed and confidence.
  • AI-Augmented Development Enablement: Champion the adoption of AI coding tools and good development practices across engineering teams, staying current on advancements in tools like Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Claude, and similar platforms.
  • Governance & Standards: Establish and maintain standards, documentation, and governance practices for approved developer tools, ensuring security and compliance requirements are met across all tools.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with multiple diverse groups to align tooling decisions with enterprise architecture, security requirements, and business priorities, serving as a trusted subject matter expert on developer tooling and productivity.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field; equivalent practical experience considered.
  • 5+ years of software engineering or platform/tooling engineering experience; demonstrated experience owning developer tooling or SDLC initiatives; experience with enterprise software rollouts and change management preferred.
  • Proficiency with AI-powered development tools (Cursor Claude, GitHub Copilot, or equivalent); hands-on experience with CI/CD platforms (Gitlab, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, or equivalent); familiarity with DORA metrics and developer productivity measurement frameworks; scripting proficiency; experience with cloud environments (AWS preferred); familiarity with code quality and observability tooling.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • Experience leading enterprise rollout of AI coding tools or developer productivity platforms; familiarity with Internal Developer Platform (IDP) concepts; Agile/DevOps certifications or experience; background in developer advocacy or engineering enablement; experience with Snowflake or enterprise data platforms for metrics reporting.
