Napa Kitchen & Bar is seeking a Sous Chef to join our back of house team.
About the Role:
The Sous Chef plays a critical role in the culinary operations of our establishment, acting as the second-in-command in the kitchen and supporting the Executive Chef in delivering exceptional dining experiences. This position is responsible for overseeing daily kitchen activities, ensuring food quality, consistency, and presentation meet the highest standards. The Sous Chef will manage kitchen staff, coordinate food preparation, and maintain inventory control to optimize efficiency and minimize waste. They will also implement health and safety regulations, and foster a collaborative and productive work environment. Ultimately, the Sous Chef ensures that all culinary operations run smoothly, supporting the restaurant’s reputation for excellence and customer satisfaction.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a Sous Chef or similar role in a professional kitchen.
- Strong knowledge of culinary techniques, food safety, and sanitation standards.
- Ability to manage and lead a team effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Culinary degree or equivalent professional training is preferred but not mandatory.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in high-volume full service dining establishments.
- Certification in food safety and sanitation (e.g., ServSafe).
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams.
Responsibilities:
- Assist the Executive Chef in planning and directing food preparation and culinary activities.
- Supervise and coordinate the work of kitchen staff to ensure timely and high-quality food production.
- Monitor food quality and presentation to maintain consistency and adherence to recipes and standards.
- Assist Chef with managing inventory, order supplies, and control food costs to optimize kitchen operations.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and sanitation standards in the kitchen.
- Train, mentor, and evaluate kitchen staff to promote professional development and teamwork.
- Handle kitchen operations in the absence of the Executive Chef, making critical decisions as needed.
