Job description

Position Purpose: With appropriate supervision depending on experience, the Attorney achieves resolution of client issues through routine and some complex negotiation and/or litigation requiring fundamental legal knowledge and experience, and practices other phases of law on various assignments of increasing complexity.

Responsibilities/Duties/Functions/Tasks:

  • Acts with the highest ethical standards both as a legal professional and as a member of the Firm.
  • Actively promotes professionalism, collegiality and diversity within and outside the Firm.
  • Directly and indirectly contributes to the financial success of the Firm.
  • Delivers excellent customer service to internal and external clients.
  • Possesses strong organizational, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Represents clients at legal, administrative and other proceedings as assigned.
  • Researches and interprets laws, rulings, and regulations and formulates legal opinions for review.
  • Identifies causes of action and prepares lawsuits based upon an investigation of facts and applicable laws and procedures.
  • Conducts discovery in conformity with applicable rules.
  • Interviews clients and witnesses in preparation for legal proceedings.
  • Reviews, drafts, and/or dictates legal briefs, correspondence, pleadings, and other legal documents.
  • Acts in compliance with the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, and other applicable consumer protection statutes and regulations.
  • With limited assistance, develops strategy, arguments, and testimony in preparation for presentation of case.
  • Monitors routine to complex case files to formulate next course of action and ensure deadlines are maintained.
  • Interprets laws, rulings, and regulations and provides authoritative legal advice for individuals and businesses.
  • Negotiates with individuals to achieve final resolution of case, arrange legal settlements and resolves routine and some complex issues.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with clients.
  • Provides appropriate mentoring and serves as a resource for less experienced Junior Associates and Associates.
  • Markets firm services to prospective and new clients on an ongoing basis.
  • Represents and promotes the firm within the community and at public, social, and business gatherings.
  • Assigns and reviews the work of department staff, as required.
  • Complete all required training applicable to this position.
  • Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this position.
  • Other duties, as assigned. 

Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor Degree (J.D.) and
  • 4+ years of relevant experience to include courtroom and motion practice.
  • Read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents.
  • Work in a team setting with emotional intelligence.
  • Ability to work with outside counsel to cultivate litigation strategy and work in clients’ best interests.
  • Capability to mentor and consult with non-attorney team members.
  • Respond effectively, and discretely, to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints.
  • Calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages.
  • Apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.
  • Handle a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
  • Knowledge of relevant laws, legal codes, legal/court procedures, precedents, and government regulations, including the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (F.D.C.P.A.), Uniform Commercial Code and other applicable consumer protection statutes and regulations, and processes and documents specific to assigned specialty area; electronic legal research tools such as Westlaw; ability to interpret and apply legal principles and procedures and develop effective working relationships with clients, co-workers, and court systems.
  • Knowledge of auto finance, financial services or credit union regulations and laws.
  • Must hold a current, valid Ohio license to practice law.
  • Must practice according to the rules of professional conduct and ethical standards as required by the attorney’s licensing state.
