HDR is looking for a Substation Civil - Structural Engineer to join our growing and nationally ranked team of Power Delivery professionals.
The successful candidate will be a part of a team that provides design support for large, medium, and small-scale substation engineering projects. This is an excellent growth opportunity for a self-directed individual who wants to learn and take on new challenges.
In the role of Substation Civil / Structural EIT, we'll count on you to:
  • Prepare engineering drawings, calculations, analyses, reports and designs for electrical substations (Low, Medium and High Voltage).
  • Prepare calculations, design sketches and redline drawings.
  • Work with Designers and CADD Technicians to develop drawings in accordance with national design standards, safety codes and project specifications and requirements.
  • Develop design deliverables including fabrication level steel drawings and foundation construction drawings.
  • Participate on site visits during the design, construction and as-built phases of projects.
  • May also assist with developing technical papers and/or presentations that showcase HDR's technical capabilities at industry conferences or other events.
  • Participate in project reviews as needed.
  • Some travel may be required.

Due to client contract requirements - US naturalized citizenship is required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Structural, or related engineering field
  • Master's degree
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Self-motivated and ability to take initiative.
  • EIT certification or ability to pass the FE exam within 6 months strongly preferred. Candidates hired without their EIT will be titled "Designer" and will be expected to obtain their EIT for career progression
  • Experience with Tedds, Lpile or similar structural design software.
  • Prior experience consulting or working for an electric utility is a plus.
  • Expose to substation design is a plus
  • Local candidates preferred
