Gridware Jobs Information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Senior Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Senior Engineer, you need advanced technical expertise in your engineering discipline, a relevant degree, and several years of industry experience. Familiarity with project management software, CAD tools, and compliance with engineering standards or certifications like PE (Professional Engineer) is typically required. Critical thinking, leadership, and effective communication are essential soft skills for mentoring teams and managing complex projects. These skills and qualities ensure successful project delivery, innovation, and strong team performance within engineering environments.

How does a Senior Engineer typically mentor junior team members, and what impact does this have on the team's success?

Senior Engineers often play a key role in mentoring junior developers by providing guidance on technical challenges, reviewing code, and sharing best practices. This mentorship helps foster a collaborative environment where less-experienced team members can develop their skills more rapidly. As a result, the entire team benefits from improved code quality, faster problem-solving, and a culture of continuous learning. Senior Engineers also help set standards and encourage professional growth, which contributes to the overall success and cohesion of the engineering team.

What is a Senior Engineer?

A Senior Engineer is an experienced professional responsible for designing, developing, and overseeing complex engineering projects. They often lead teams, mentor junior engineers, and ensure that technical solutions meet organizational goals and industry standards. Senior Engineers are typically experts in their field, possessing advanced problem-solving skills and a deep understanding of relevant technologies and methodologies. Their role also often involves collaborating across departments, managing timelines, and contributing to strategic planning.

What is the difference between Senior Engineer vs Mechanical Engineer?

Gridware is a San Francisco-based technology company dedicated to protecting and enhancing the electrical grid. We pioneered a groundbreaking new class of grid management called active grid response (AGR), focused on monitoring the electrical, physical, and environmental aspects of the grid that affect reliability and safety. Gridware's advanced Active Grid Response platform uses high-precision sensors to detect potential issues early, enabling proactive maintenance and fault mitigation. This comprehensive approach helps improve safety, reduce outages, and ensure the grid operates efficiently. The company is backed by climate-tech and Silicon Valley investors. About the Role
As a Senior Hardware Product Manager, you will lead the development of our hardware product portfolio. This is a critical, foundational role - with broad responsibility for defining, building, and launching innovative hardware solutions that enable our mission.
You will work cross-functionally with engineering, operations, manufacturing partners, and marketing teams to translate customer needs into robust hardware products, drive product strategy and roadmaps, and ensure successful delivery from concept through production.
Responsibilities
  • Own the end-to-end product lifecycle for Gridware's hardware products, from concept and requirements through development, manufacturing, and launch
  • Develop and maintain hardware product roadmaps aligned with company strategy and customer needs
  • Gather and synthesize customer, market, and competitive insights to inform product strategy and prioritization
  • Write clear product requirements and specifications, balancing technical feasibility, cost, and user experience
  • Partner closely with hardware engineering, firmware, and software teams to define system architectures and product trade-offs
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, supply chain, and quality teams to ensure manufacturability, cost targets, and quality standards are met
  • Establish product development processes and best practices for hardware product management at Gridware
  • Help define and track key product metrics and success criteria
  • Serve as a key interface between technical teams and commercial stakeholders, ensuring alignment on timelines, risks, and deliverables

Required Skills
  • Bachelor's or higher degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field
  • 7+ years of professional experience, ideally in hardware product management or closely related technical roles
  • Experience managing hardware products through full lifecycle: concept, development, validation, manufacturing, and launch
  • Strong technical acumen in hardware systems (e.g. electronics, mechanical assemblies, sensors, embedded systems, etc.)
  • Comfortable working in fast-paced, ambiguous environments where you're building processes as you go
  • Excellent communication skills, able to work across disciplines and influence without authority
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a bias toward action

Bonus Skills
  • Experience working with contract manufacturers and hardware supply chains is a plus.
  • Experience with cloud-connected hardware and modern software systems

$170,000 - $195,000 a year
