Job description

Job Title: Senior Systems Support Engineer
Classification: Exempt
Location: Badin, NC
About the Role: The Senior Systems Support Engineer is responsible for providing advanced technical support and solutions for the plant's process control systems. This includes overseeing infrastructure, hardware, software, and applications for all levels of the on-site process computer environment. The role encompasses support for a wide range of equipment, such as Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs), Process Computers, Programmable Drives, SCADA Systems, Smart Instrumentation, and various system interfaces.
The Senior Systems Support Engineer will be a key player in minimizing plant downtime through advanced troubleshooting and system maintenance, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental standards. The position will require on-call support and direct collaboration with the IT team, operations staff, and external vendors to optimize performance and reliability.

What you'll do:
Information Technology and Process Control Support:
  • Provide expert troubleshooting, problem resolution, and repairs for all IT and Process Automation System infrastructure and equipment.
  • Apply and develop maintenance strategies to enhance operational efficiency, reduce costs, and extend the lifecycle of equipment.
  • Lead reliability improvement initiatives to optimize asset availability through enhanced automation and control systems.
  • Initiate and manage Capital Project Requests aimed at enhancing system reliability, equipment lifecycle management, and process control communication.
  • Partner with operations to implement system upgrades and improvements that elevate overall performance and safety.
  • Maintain thorough documentation for all IT and Process Control Systems, ensuring compliance with organizational standards.
  • Ensure adherence to IT protocols for Information and Process Systems (IPS) to minimize risk and maintain system integrity across all hardware, software, and applications.
  • Oversee local compliance with NERC CIP-C standards with the Compliance Coordinator, while also supporting site compliance with broader NERC reliability standards.
  • Collaborate with electrical maintenance teams to provide ongoing support for automation equipment and daily operational needs.
  • Actively monitor processes and procedures to enhance safety and minimize environmental impact, working toward the goal of zero safety incidents.
  • Deliver tailored IT/PCS solutions for the site, working closely with both internal IPS teams and external partners to standardize and implement effective technologies.
  • Provide leadership and oversight in managing project implementation within the site, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
  • The ability to travel as needed up to 25%
Project Management and Execution:
  • Develop comprehensive IT project plans, including detailed timelines, resource allocation, and budget oversight.
  • Coordinate internal resources and manage external vendors/third-party providers to successfully execute projects.
  • Ensure effective resource management and allocate team members appropriately to meet project milestones and deadlines.
  • Track project progress, identify potential risks, and proactively manage changes in scope, schedule, and budget to ensure project success.
  • Oversee the completion and delivery of all site-specific systems and provide post-project support as needed.
What skills and experience you'll need:
  • Strong written/verbal communication and customer service skills to successfully maintain a high level of collaboration with colleagues.
  • Experience creating/authoring documentation to include user manuals, technical specifications, or training materials, consumable by end users, colleagues, and employees of any level.
  • Sound judgement and technical decision-making skills.
  • The ability to perform a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature.
  • A drive to stay up to date on emerging technologies and hands-on experience with the latest versions of the following technologies: Windows Server, Azure, Active Directory, Office 365, VMWare/Hyper-V, Storage, Ethernet, Wireless Networks, Firewalls, DNS, DHCP, heterogeneous LAN environments.
  • Data Analysis using Excel, MS Access, SQL, etc.
  • Power Apps/Power BI development/support experience.
  • Programming languages: Experience with different programing languages (Python, C#, etc.).
  • A strong attention to detail so work is accurate and complete.
  • An Associate or Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science/Engineering or related field preferred
  • Preferred Technical Certifications: CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, Microsoft 365
