The Resource must be available for a minimum of 7 hours per Business Day. Remote work is permitted, although occasional onsite work in Edmonton may be requested.
Technical Project Manager Resource supporting an in-flight Agile, cloud-based web software development project and additional projects within Alberta Education and Childcare's Digital Content Management and Delivery branch.
Client is seeking an experienced Technical Project Manager to lead technical project management activities for the development, implementation, and support of LearnAlberta.ca and related applications.
The successful candidate will manage project planning and delivery, technical teams, risks, dependencies, timelines, stakeholder coordination, and multiple concurrent initiatives while providing technical leadership across Agile web-software development projects.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Project Management
Manage the development, implementation, and support of LearnAlberta.ca and related applications.
Provide project and program management support across the branch.
Lead and manage multiple technical projects and teams concurrently.
Plan and coordinate project activities, deliverables, schedules, and timelines.
Assign work and monitor progress.
Coordinate project dependencies and cross-project activities.
Escalate project issues and risks appropriately.
Agile Delivery
Lead Agile web-software development projects.
Support backlog management and prioritization.
Facilitate sprint planning and delivery coordination.
Coordinate business, technical, and development teams.
Monitor team delivery and project milestones.
Promote effective Agile delivery practices.
Technical Leadership
Provide technical leadership to project teams.
Lead technical discussions and help resolve technical delivery issues.
Influence solution design and provide architectural guidance for cloud and non-cloud solutions.
Bridge business requirements and engineering/technical teams.
Support technical decision-making and solution delivery.
Cloud & Application Delivery
Manage web-software development projects involving cloud infrastructure such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
Support release governance and environment management.
Coordinate CI/CD processes and deployments.
Manage projects involving complex web applications, integrations, authentication/identity services, and content management functionality.
Stakeholder & Governance Management
Coordinate with business and technical stakeholders.
Gather project requirements from clients.
Manage project governance and decision-making processes.
Prepare weekly project status reports.
Provide executive-level reporting and project updates.
Assist with business cases and technical documentation.
Risk Management
Identify and assess project risks.
Track risks and dependencies.
Develop and implement mitigation strategies.
Communicate risks and issues to appropriate stakeholders.
Monitor project impact and mitigation effectiveness.
Tools & Process
Apply industry-standard project management practices and tools.
Utilize tools such as Azure DevOps, Smartsheet, or equivalent platforms.
Use approved AI-assisted tools where appropriate to improve project management effectiveness, with project decisions validated by the Technical Project Manager.
Mandatory Qualifications:
The candidate must meet one of the following education/experience combinations:
Option 1
University degree or 2-year diploma in Computer Science or a related discipline from an accredited post-secondary institution; AND
Minimum 7 years of experience on web-based software development projects.
OR
Option 2
1-year certificate in Computer Science or a related discipline from an accredited post-secondary institution; AND
Minimum 9 years of experience on web-based software development projects.
