In this position... 
 

Develop transmission gears, planetary assemblies, shafts and driveline axle shaft components in conjunction with powertrain systems teams, manufacturing teams, and global suppliers.

Lead component design, analysis, failure mode avoidance (FMA), and test validation.

Utilize project management skills to deliver programs on time, communicate all risks, track changes and maintain documentation

You'll have...


Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering or similar discipline

1 year experience in Microsoft Office

1 year of CAD experience

Preferred additional experience and skills:

Masters in product development or other engineering discipline

Industry experience with gears and/or torque carrying components

Strong knowledge of component design for forging, powder metal, stamping, machining, grinding, gear manufacturing, heat treatment

Even better, you may have...
Working knowledge of CAD (Catia or 3DX) including reviewing drawings and GD&T

Experience with Romax or Transmission3D, and reviewing other CAE simulations and models

Applying 8D, fish-bone, and DOE problem solving methodology

Strong foundation in FMA processes and documentation

Experience with DVP&R, calculate number of samples and testing cycles according to reliability and confidence targets

Ability to work independently and demonstrated track record of delivering results in a dynamic technical environment.

Strong communication skills with ability to present information in concise manner

Ability to balance both a technical and a program management mindset

Capability of managing multiple projects at a time

Strong leadership, project, and team building skills - ability to lead teams and drive projects by working effectively with others with a demonstrated ability to work cross-departmentally

Strong collaborator - willingness to share ideas, documentation, and best practices

This position is a salary grade 5 to a salary grade 8. Salaries can range from $65,100 - $166,200.      
Final determination of salary grade will be based on candidate's skills and experience, and base salary will be set within the applicable range according to job scope, responsibility and competitive market value.

The engineer will lead and support the following design engineering activities from pre-program through launch:

Develop transmission and axle components to meet powertrain and vehicle attributes including strength, durability, and NVH for current production and future applications.

Lead Ford internal and external supplier CPMT (Component Product Management Team) for your components.

Interface with systems engineering team, Ford manufacturing plants, and component suppliers to meet program objectives for quality, cost, and performance requirements.

Interface with CAD/CAE team to deliver optimized designs and identify manufacturing feasibility.

Create and maintain FMA documents e.g. DFMEA, DVP&R, P-Diagram, Boundary Diagram.

Oversee prototype and production build delivery and quality

Manage supplier delivery and Ford milestones through Job 1. Complete PPAP and production implementation on new programs or changes to existing parts.

Analyze test hardware to identify root cause of failure and define corrective actions using 8D tools/methods.

Post-launch objectives and duties:

Collaborate with Purchasing, Cost Estimators and Suppliers to work together to implement cost reductions through engineering change management.

Root cause analysis for warranty and high time in service returns.  Implement corrective actions. 

Assess Ford plant or supplier change requests, manage timely approval process and track implementation.

Occasional travel to suppliers or assembly plants may be required.
