Job description

Job Summary:

The purpose of the Coating Sew On Operator is to sew greige rolls together, ensuring continuous operation of the coater. Seams must be trimmed straight with as little waste generated as possible, patterns aligned, and seams tightly stitched, all while inspecting carpet and recording any visible defects into the comments of the greige roll in the computer.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Obtain schedule for the day and match each roll sewn into the schedule.
  • Responsible for ensuring rolls are sewn on in the correct order.
  • Attach flags to rolls as necessary to identify upcoming changes in the product.
  • Monitor J-boxes for carpet level and maintain sufficient carpet to ensure continuous operation. Care should be taken to keep the carpet aligned properly and to keep tension adjusted.
  • Keep the area around sew-on clean. Assist in thread-up of coater and start-up and shut-down or change-overs.
  • Communicate any issues to supervisor/lead immediately.

Performance Expectations (if applicable):

  • Lifting is required of cores, and buckets weighing 30 lbs. approximately 80 times per shift.
  • Standing is required 80% of the shift.
  • Reaching is required for cores 40 to 100 times per shift.
  • Stooping is required 15 to 30 times per shift for intervals of 1 to 2 minutes.
  • Bending is required for cores 25 to 30 times per shift.
  • Climbing of stairs and ladders is occasionally required.
  • Must be able to use scissors.

Experience/Education Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Read and write effectively.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Computer knowledge or data entry skills are a necessary part of the job.

Other Requirements:

  • Overtime is required on occasion.
  • All accidents/incidents must be reported immediately.
  • Perform any other duties as required by management.
  • Safety equipment must be worn when required and safety requirements followed in all areas.
  • Report any safety, quality, or production issues while performing the job.
  • Responsible for safety, quality and productivity of output.
