Fleet Maintenance Manager

Palmetto Yacht Management

Manning, SC • On-site

$50K - $75K/yr

Full-time

Job description

Build Something Exceptional!!
Not everyone is built to run an operation.
Some people see a truck, trailer, or piece of equipment that's broken and fix today's problem.
Others see the entire operation, identify the root of the issue, improve the process, and make changes to ensure the problem doesn't happen twice.
We're looking for the second person!
About Palmetto Yacht Management:
Palmetto Yacht Management has become one of the nation's premier yacht transportation companies by refusing to accept "good enough." Our trucks, trailers, technology, people, and customer experience are continuously evolving-and we're looking for someone who shares that same mindset.
If you take pride in building organized, efficient operations, enjoy solving problems before they happen, and want the freedom to improve an already successful company, we'd like to hear from you!
Why Palmetto Yacht Management:
❌We ARE NOT a Corporate Bureaucracy.
We are an entrepreneurial company that believes good ideas can come from anyone.
We invest heavily in technology, equipment, and our people because we believe excellence isn't an accident.
If you've ever wished you could walk into an operation and help build it the right way instead of inheriting years of poor decisions, this is your opportunity.
You'll have the support, resources, trust, and backing to make a lasting impact with an industry leader in high value yacht transportation.
Position Overview:
As the Fleet Maintenance Manager, you will be the backbone of our ground operations in Manning SC. You will report directly to the Director of Fleet Operations and will manage daily shop activities while leading a team of technicians, a dedicated welding shop, parts specialists, and other personnel from time to time. This is a role for a hands-on leader who thrives on operational excellence, strict adherence to protocol, and a passion for exceeding service standards. This is not a desk job! You will be heavily involved at the ground level in all daily operations.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Operations & Leadership: Manage daily shop workflow, schedule repairs, oversee technicians and shop staff to ensure maximum efficiency.
  • SOP Compliance: Ensure absolute adherence to Palmetto Yacht Management's proprietary Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Our processes are highly specific, and maintaining them at the highest level is non-negotiable.
  • Fleet Maintenance Management: Oversee the customization, modification, and preventative maintenance of our RAM trucks and custom trailers using our Fleet Maintenance Software.
  • Quality & Safety Assurance: Conduct rigorous equipment inspections and enforce a culture of safety and precision throughout the shops.

Job Requirements & Qualifications:
To be successful in this role, you must possess a deep technical understanding of heavy-duty trucks and trailers, paired with elite organizational and management skills.
Experience & Education:
  • Minimum 5 years of related experience as a Shop Foreman, Fleet Maintenance Manager, or equivalent leadership role.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent (Minimum requirement). Some continued education is preferred.
  • Proven proficiency utilizing Fleet Maintenance Software to track assets, parts, labor, service entries, and work orders.

Qualifications:
Automotive / Truck Maintenance & Repair
Trailer Suspension Systems (Torsion / Leaf)
Hubs, Bearings, Seals
Disc & Drum Brake Systems
Electrical Systems & Troubleshooting
Welding & Fabrication
Upfitting & Customization
DOT Compliance
Schedule:
  • Must be flexible based on the needs of the company.
  • The average workday is 8am - 5pm Monday through Friday.
  • Seasonal peaks will require non-standard hours.
  • Some night shift work will be required.

The Person We're Looking For:
  • Enjoys building and maintaining systems.
  • Naturally organizes chaos.
  • Is proactive vs reactive.
  • Is highly detail oriented and organized.
  • Is forward thinking and sees the larger picture.
  • Shows initiative and doesn't need to be directed to what needs attention.
  • Communicates well with shop personnel, drivers, vendors, and management alike.
  • Understands that great operations don't happen by accident, they're intentionally built.
  • Takes true ownership of the position and works to exceed the standard each day.
  • When problems are identified, your first instinct is to determine the root cause and provide a solution, instead of assigning blame.

What Success Looks Like:
Within your first year, you'll help to execute a proven maintenance program and operation where:
Equipment failures and downtime become even more rare
Preventative Maintenance drives scheduling - not emergencies.
Each Truck and Trailer is inspection-ready, safe, and ready for the driver.
Drivers have a high level of confidence in their equipment.
The shop operates efficiently and with clear priorities.
Inventory is organized and controlled.
Overall downtime is minimized.
