About the Opportunity

The Director of Development at West Virginia University Instituteof Technology serves as the lead fundraising professional for WVUTech, responsible for advancing philanthropic support across thefull spectrum of giving. With a primary emphasis on major gifts of$50,000 and above, this role partners closely with the President,academic and athletic leadership, faculty, and staff to alignfundraising strategy with campus academic priorities, studentsuccess initiatives, and strategic growth goals.

In collaboration with WVU Foundation and University partners, theDirector identifies prospects, builds and manages donorrelationships, and leads qualification, cultivation, solicitation,and stewardship efforts at all gift levels. The Director isaccountable for implementing WVU Foundation's comprehensivedevelopment strategy at WVU Tech and achieving individual andcampus-wide fundraising goals.

What You'll Do
  • Lead and strengthen WVU Tech's comprehensive fundraisingprogram, with emphasis on major gift development of $50,000 andabove, while also facilitating annual and mid-level givingstrategies in support of campus priorities.
  • Manage a dynamic portfolio of major gift donors and prospects,as defined by the WVU Foundation. Execute qualifying discussionswith prospects identified by Prospect Development and Strategy andcampus partners to define the philanthropic aspirations ofprospects with capacity of $50,000 and above for WVU Tech. See themajor gift cycle through with qualified major gift prospectsthrough cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
  • As the sole development officer dedicated to WVU Tech, thisrole will strengthen and manage the full donor pipeline. Support ofthe full donor lifecycle across the giving continuum will befostered by partnership with the WVU Foundation annual givingprogram and by identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewardingdonors below the major gift threshold of $50,000.
  • Serve as a visible and trusted philanthropic partner across WVUTech, maintaining a highly engaged campus presence and regularcommunication with leadership, faculty, and staff. Build deep,collaborative relationships that recognize the campus's uniqueculture and community, proactively sharing fundraising prioritiesand progress, identifying emerging opportunities, and fostering aculture of philanthropy aligned with WVU Tech's distinct identityand strategic direction.
  • Serve as the primary strategic fundraising partner to the WVUTech President and campus leadership team, collaborating withacademic program directors, faculty, athletic leadership, alumnileaders, and staff to define funding priorities, develop compellingcases for support, and position philanthropy as a key driver ofenrollment growth, workforce development, and student success.
  • Develop and execute strategies to increase alumniparticipation, strengthen corporate and regional partnerships, andelevate WVU Tech's philanthropic presence across southern WestVirginia and beyond.
  • Plan, schedule, and complete frequent travel in West Virginia,regionally, and nationally to advance portfolio activity and donorengagement, partnering with regional, planned giving and corporateand foundation relations colleagues as appropriate.
  • Design, support and execute outreach strategies for major giftdonors and donors under $50,000 through personal engagement, campusevents, digital communication, and Day of Giving initiatives.
  • Partner with WVU Foundation colleagues in Prospect Developmentand Strategy, Principal Giving, Institutional Giving, PlannedGiving, and Donor Engagement to advance integrated fundraisingstrategies while maintaining primary accountability for WVU Techoutcomes.
  • Develop and execute personalized stewardship plans incoordination with the Donor Relations program for select donors andoversee comprehensive donor acknowledgement and engagement effortsfor the campus.
  • Comply with all WVU Foundation reporting, documentation, andaccountability standards while modeling responsiveness,professionalism, and strategic leadership in a one-person campusfundraising operation.
Qualifications :
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience in the following:
    • Direct and progressively responsible experience inmajor/planned gift fundraising or other employment involvingsimilar direct client engagement is required.
    • Executive presence, professional writing and businesscommunication skills are required.
  • Any equivalent combination of related education and/orexperience will be considered.
  • All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Proficiency in computer business applications and internetusage is necessary.
  • Ability to enter data accurately and in a timely manner into adatabase and recall information through reports is necessary.
  • Experience in CRM system preferred.

Valid driver's license.
