Job description

BHS Workforce is seeking a travel nurse RN PCU - Progressive Care Unit for a travel nursing job in Birmingham, Alabama.

Job Description & Requirements

Requirements:

  • Active RN license in state of practice (or compact license as applicable)
  • BSN preferred; ADN accepted per facility policy
  • BLS and ACLS certification required
  • PCCN (Progressive Care Certified Nurse) preferred
  • 1+ years of stepdown/telemetry experience required
  • Experience with telemetry monitoring and moderate-acuity patient management

Duties:

  • Provide nursing care to patients requiring closer monitoring than Med-Surg but not ICU-level care
  • Continuously monitor cardiac rhythms and vital signs, identifying and responding to changes in condition
  • Administer medications, including select IV drips, per physician orders
  • Assess, monitor, and manage patients transitioning from ICU or at risk of clinical deterioration
  • Collaborate with physicians, intensivists, and interdisciplinary team on plan of care
  • Respond to rapid response and code interventions as needed
  • Educate patients and families on condition, treatment plan, and recovery process
  • Accurately document assessments, interventions, and patient response in the EMR
  • Manage a moderate patient load per facility acuity and staffing guidelines (typically 3-4 patients)
  • Ensure infection control and fall prevention protocols are followed
