Job description

The Green Workforce Development Intern will support Cornell Cooperative Extension of Suffolk County, as well as the Long Island Regional Clean Energy Hub project through the implementation of research, administrative/ project management tasks, event coordination and outreach tasks related to green workforce, clean energy, careers in the trades, and sub-related topics overlapping with these fields within the geographic area of Long Island and the Rockaways. This position will be overseen by CCE Suffolk's Clean Energy Workforce Development Manager and HR.
Required Qualifications:
  • Currently studying in or recently graduated from a college program in a field related to workforce development, clean energy, environment, the humanities, or a related field
  • Passion and interest in the intersection between society, environment and how labor trends and workforce programs can create green jobs that contribute to environmental sustainability and promote socio-economic opportunity and equity
  • Experience in any of the following: project management, research, database management and optimization, event coordination, outreach, social media, environmental sustainability, clean energy, workforce development, or related fields
  • Experience using Microsoft Suite
  • Additional experience in any of the following: GIS, advanced database software and platforms, and project management tools

Preferred Qualifications
  • Fluency/ proficiency in Spanish and or Haitian Creole.

Job Responsibilities:
Research & Program Development:
  • Conduct research to update and expand upon spreadsheets and databases utilized for workforce development programs
  • Provide proposal development supports in the forms of research on different workforce sub-sectors and related topics to inform grant writing
  • Contribute to grant and proposal writing initiatives

Administrative Assistance and Project Management:
  • Provide administrative project management support by coordinating via email with local stakeholders
  • Participate in workforce and HR meetings, providing complimentary support by taking notes and managing follow-up items
  • Shadow workforce development manager and CCE Suffolk HR staff to learn and gain experience in additional work areas, supporting in additional select tasks as identified

Marketing, Outreach and Event Coordination:
  • Support in event coordination and planning
  • Provide in-person support at events across Long Island and the Rockaways doing community engagement and education
  • Participate in additional events as a participant to learn, observe, take notes and report back to the Workforce Manager about the events
  • Develop marketing content and social media drafts highlighting workforce success stories and initiatives

POSITION DETAILS:
Salary: $17 per hour (Health Benefits eligible)
Schedule: NONEXEMPT - TEMP: May 28, 2026 - August 31, 2026
No relocation or VISA Sponsorship available
