The Director of Workforce, Career, and Experiential Learning provides leadership and operational oversight for workforce development, career services, and career-connected experiential learning opportunities at Finger Lakes Community College. The Director collaborates with faculty, staff, employers, and community partners to develop and implement innovative programs that prepare students for high-demand careers and support the regions economic and workforce needs. Within the Academic and Student Affairs organizational structure, experiential learning in this role refers specifically to career-connected experiences such as internships, cooperative education, apprenticeships, and other forms of work-based learning. This role advances the Academic and Student Affairs Divisions commitment to integrated learning pathways, experiential education, and partnerships that promote student success, community engagement, and regional vitality.

Qualifications:

  1. Educational Background: Bachelors Degree in education, workforce development, business administration or a related field required. Masters Degree in education, workforce development, business administration, or a related field preferred.
  2. Experience Required: Minimum of three years of progressively responsible leadership experience. Demonstrated knowledge of career and technical education (CTE), career services, and applied learning. Experience managing budgets and financial resources. Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion. Excellent communication, collaboration, and leadership skills, with the ability to build and sustain effective partnerships.
  3. Experience Preferred: Experience developing workforce training programs in collaboration with industry partners. Familiarity with workforce funding models, apprenticeship programs, and employer partnerships. Knowledge of labor market trends, emerging workforce needs, and industry-recognized credentials. Experience in curriculum and/or academic program development. Knowledge of student retention best practices and strategies that promote engagement and academic success. Experience aligning workforce initiatives with strategic enrollment and student success goals. Experience in a community college setting. Experience working within shared governance structures. Experience with grant implementation, compliance, reporting, and fiscal management. Experience managing external or grant-funded resources. Demonstrated ability to develop, manage, and adjust budgets across a fiscal year and/or the life cycle of a grant. Experience preparing, interpreting, and analyzing statistical and performance reports.

Essential Functions:

A. Leadership and Strategy

Develops and implements a comprehensive vision for workforce training and career development aligned with the Colleges mission and strategic goals.

Oversees the development and implementation of workforce and career training programs that respond to labor market needs, emerging industries, and employer demand.

Provides leadership for applied learning initiatives including internships, cooperative education, service learning, undergraduate research, work-based learning, apprenticeships, and project-based learning.

Supports alignment between workforce initiatives, academic programs, and regional economic development priorities.

Ensures workforce and experiential learning initiatives contribute to student success, retention, completion, and career outcomes.

B. Workforce and Career Development

Collaborates with business and industry leaders to identify workforce development needs and create customized training programs.

Works with the Associate Provost, faculty, and staff to develop non-credit workforce training programs aligned with industry-recognized certifications and pathways to credit-bearing programs.

Conducts labor market analysis to assess workforce trends, employer demand, and regional skills gaps.

Develops advisory councils with industry representatives to ensure workforce training programs align with current and future employer needs.

Supports regional economic development initiatives that promote workforce growth and job creation.

Develops strategies that leverage public-private partnerships to expand workforce training opportunities.

C. Experiential Learning and Career Services

Expands career-connected experiential learning opportunities to ensure students gain meaningful real-world professional experience.

Strengthens partnerships with employers and community organizations to create robust internship, apprenticeship, and work-based learning opportunities.

Provides leadership for comprehensive career services including career exploration, resume development, interview preparation, and job placement support.

Establishes and maintains partnerships with regional employers to create employment opportunities aligned with students academic programs and career goals.

Monitors career services outcomes and student satisfaction through data collection and assessment tools to enhance programming, employer engagement, and student support strategies

D. Administration and Operations

Supervises staff responsible for workforce development, applied learning, and career services initiatives.

Works with the Applied Learning and Career Services offices to organize networking events, career fairs, and employer engagement opportunities for students.

Seeks grant opportunities and external funding to expand workforce development and experiential learning initiatives.

Manages budgets, resources, and operational processes to ensure program effectiveness and fiscal sustainability.

Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal regulations related to workforce and career programs.

Collects and analyzes program data to assess effectiveness and inform continuous improvement efforts.

E. Work Environment

This position may require occasional travel for industry engagement, workforce development meetings, and employer partnership development.

Evening and weekend work may be required to support workforce training programs, employer engagement events, and career programming.

Benefits and salary range:

Applicants receiving benefits through the New York State Retirement System should review state regulations regarding post-retirement employment. This position is not eligible for employment under a Section 211 waiver.

  1. Competitive starting salary in the range of $72,809 to $80,305 and is commensurate with qualifications

  2. A flexible work schedule is available upon successful completion of training. This position follows a hybrid model, with a combination of on-site and remote work.
