Job description

Position: W2 Workday Test Lead / Workday Testing Consultant (Payroll, Benefits, Compensation)
Location: Cincinnati, Ohio (relocation required for non-local candidates)
Duration: Contract to Hire
Job ID: 176844
Job Overview:
We are seeking an experienced HCM Workday Test Lead to oversee and execute comprehensive testing strategies for Workday modules. This role requires a hands-on professional with a strong background in Workday HCM testing, including functional, regression, and integration testing. The ideal candidate will also provide leadership in test planning, defect management, and stakeholder engagement while ensuring alignment with change management and audit controls.
Responsibilities:
  • Hands-On Test Execution:
    • Execute end-to-end functional, regression, and integration testing across Workday modules, including Core HCM, Benefits, Absence Management, Time Tracking, Payroll-related interfaces, Security, and Business Process (BP) changes.
    • Validate Workday configuration updates and ensure downstream impacts are identified and tested.
    • Perform smoke testing and targeted regression testing for BAU releases and break/fix items.
  • Test Leadership & Planning:
    • Develop and maintain BAU test strategies, test plans, and execution schedules aligned to release timelines.
    • Identify impacted business processes and define comprehensive test scenarios and regression coverage.
    • Serve as the testing point of contact for BAU demand while acquisition workstreams are handled by the full-time team.
  • Defect & Request Management:
    • Log, track, and manage testing work and defects using Digital.ai as the system of record for incoming requests.
    • Triage issues, document clear reproduction steps, partner with Workday analysts/configurators on resolution, and execute retesting.
    • Ensure defects are appropriately prioritized and resolved before release signoff.
  • UAT & Stakeholder Engagement:
    • Partner with HR functional owners and SMEs to support User Acceptance Testing (UAT) when required.
    • Provide guidance, test scripts, and entry/exit criteria to business testers.
    • Communicate testing status, risks, and readiness in clear, concise updates to stakeholders and management.
  • Test Assets, Controls & Documentation:
    • Build and maintain reusable test scripts, test cases, and regression packs to improve future testing efficiency.
    • Document test results, production readiness recommendations, and signoffs.
    • Ensure testing practices align with change management, audit, and internal control expectations.

Qualifications:
  • 10+ years of QA/testing experience, with demonstrated hands-on testing in Workday.
  • Experience executing testing across multiple Workday modules (not limited to Core HCM).
  • Proven ability to operate as a hands-on Test Lead, not just a coordinator.
  • Strong understanding of Workday business processes, configuration dependencies, and integration touchpoints.
  • Experience creating and maintaining test plans, test cases, regression suites, and test evidence.
  • Experience using Digital.ai (or similar tools) for intake, tracking, and managing testing work.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate testing results and risks.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience supporting Workday release cycles (including Workday's semi-annual updates).
  • Familiarity with testing tools such as Jira, Azure DevOps, ALM, or ServiceNow (in addition to Digital.ai).
  • Experience working in regulated or highly controlled environments (financial services experience is a plus).
  • Prior experience supporting organizations undergoing acquisitions or large-scale change.
Key Deliverables & Success Measures:
  • Thorough BAU testing coverage across all impacted Workday modules.
  • Well-maintained regression test assets that reduce risk and improve speed over time.
  • Clear, documented release readiness recommendations for each deployment.
  • Effective defect management with timely resolution and minimal production incidents.
  • Reliable BAU testing execution while acquisition initiatives proceed in parallel.
