Job description

Summary

The Electrical Engineering Process intern will support basic electrical engineering principles to complete activities requiring the application of engineering knowledge in a safe, effective, efficient, and economic manner. Working closely with the Process Engineering Group on projects and plant initiatives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Gains general knowledge of power plant maintenance and operation.
  • Assists with tracking plant metrics associated with the efficient operation of plant assets and continuous improvement.
  • Works with the Process Engineering Group to participates in equipment inspections and provides technical support
  • Researches, reads and learns to interpret construction plans, engineering drawings, standard work documentation, and other plant engineering standards.
  • Develops skills under guidance of Senior Engineers and begins to gain technical knowledge of the maintenance for Cardinal Station units.
  • Supports and gathers information for Process Engineering staff to process drawing modifications/revisions.
  • Observes more senior engineers creating project plans, monitoring progress, executing actions and working with engineers to develop recommendations regarding projects.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Enrolled in ABET (by graduation date) accredited university studying Engineering discipline for greater than two semesters (Freshman year completed by summer internship start date)

Experience:  Completion of Engineering Fundamentals - 101 or equivalent

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and walk; sit; work with hands and fingers; push, pull, reach, climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; communicate with others to exchange information; and hear.  The employee must have close visual acuity to analyze data, perform inspections, and view computer monitors; and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.

Work Environment

This position could require working in extreme heat and cold both in inside and outside environments; environments containing fumes, odors, dust, gases, and high amounts of noise and vibration. Additionally, this position requires the ability to work in close quarters, narrow passageways, at heights, on grating, platforms and catwalks. Work outside normal business hours may be required.
