What You Will Do
Work Control Planners are responsible for independently developing, reviewing, and coordinating work packages that include material requirements, detailed work instructions, procedures, safety controls, and testing requirements for the execution of operations, maintenance, and modification activities. Apply work control processes to mechanical, electrical, chemical, and radiological systems while resolving planning issues, coordinating across organizations, and ensuring work packages are completed in compliance with Laboratory requirements through final closeout.
The successful candidate will:

• Maintain a strong commitment to safety, security, and quality by ensuring compliance with Laboratory policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements; maintain required training and exercise stop-work authority when conditions are unsafe or security is compromised.
• Prepare, review, and issue corrective maintenance, preventive maintenance, and equipment/system modification work packages in accordance with applicable procedures, regulations, and work control requirements.
• Develop complete work packages by analyzing material requirements, preparing material estimates, developing detailed work instructions, and supporting isolation, containment, lockout/tagout, and de-energization activities for mechanical, electrical, and physical systems.
• Coordinate and manage work planning activities by tracking and expediting work packages, supporting permit development, testing requirements, documentation, records management, database maintenance, and other work control administrative functions.
• Ensure work packages and deliverables meet established quality standards through technical review, compliance with Laboratory and industry requirements, and verification of planning documentation.
• Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and training to lower-level planners while promoting consistent application of work control processes, planning standards, and best practices.
• Evaluate work control processes, programs, and procedures to identify improvement opportunities and implement solutions that enhance planning effectiveness, operational efficiency, and continuous improvement.
• Provide functional and operational direction to reporting maintenance/operations support, and/or clerical employees, if assigned.
• Manages and expedites established priority of work packages.
• Manages various functional and administrative activities in conjunction with the primary work control/work package development including, but not limited to, monitors and/or manages Planner Backlog, assigns planners to Service Requests, Work Package Quality Assurance.

What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Knowledge & Expertise: Advanced working knowledge of work hazards, safety practices, operating configurations, and lockout/tagout (LOTO) policies and procedures. Demonstrated ability to interpret mechanical and electrical drawings, blueprints, schematics, and other technical documentation to support the planning and execution of work. Comprehensive knowledge of applicable legal and regulatory requirements, environmental considerations, and Laboratory work control and facility policies, practices, and procedures. Ability to independently research issues, evaluate alternative approaches, and recommend practical solutions to complex work control and planning challenges while ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient work execution.
Planning & Prioritization: Advanced working knowledge of work control, materials management, and mechanical maintenance. Demonstrated ability to independently research issues, evaluate alternative approaches, and recommend practical solutions to complex work control and planning challenges. Ability to analyze, interpret, and communicate work control requirements, technical information, and planning objectives to technical and non-technical personnel while ensuring compliance with Laboratory policies, procedures, and safety requirements.
Technology: Advanced working knowledge of computerized work management systems used to develop, maintain, monitor, and track work planning activities. Demonstrated ability to prepare, analyze, and present work control reports, metrics, and performance data to support operational decision-making, workload management, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Education/Experience at Work Control Planner 3 level: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree and 8 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. At this level, post graduate course work may be desirable.
DOE Order 426.2A: Requires a High School Diploma.
Desired Qualifications:

• Working experience and/or working knowledge with Asset Suites CMMS, SharePoint, Microsoft Office Suites, Electronic Document Repository Management System (EDRMS), and Facility and Programmatic Service Request Systems.
• Knowledge of Glovebox or Facility related equipment.
• Knowledge of the Laboratory's policies and procedures.
• Active Q Clearance.

Work Schedule: This position may require 24/7 coverage, which could involve working a shift/weekend schedule. Employees maybe eligible for shift differential pay when assigned by their manager. Shift/weekend assignments are at the discretion of the manager.
Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details
Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.
*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
426.2: This position is subject to DOE Order 426.2, Personnel Selection, Training, and Qualification Requirements for DOE Nuclear Facilities, which establishes entry-level requirements to ensure candidates selected for specific positions can successfully perform the requirements of the job.
