Job description

The Role

ABC Academy is seeking a warm, dependable, and collaborative Preschool Assistant Teacher to support the learning and care of children in our preschool program. Working alongside the Lead Teacher, the Assistant Teacher helps create a safe, engaging, and nurturing classroom where children learn through play, exploration, creativity, and positive relationships.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working closely with young children, values teamwork, and believes in creating joyful learning experiences both indoors and outdoors.

What You Will Do

Support Daily Learning

  • Assist the Lead Teacher in implementing developmentally appropriate, play-based learning experiences.
  • Engage children in activities such as art, music, sensory play, storytelling, dramatic play, early literacy, and hands-on exploration.
  • Encourage children’s curiosity, communication, and problem-solving throughout the day.

Support Outdoor Exploration

  • Help supervise and participate in outdoor learning experiences in all Vermont seasons.
  • Support activities such as gardening, nature walks, water play, loose parts play, and sensory exploration.
  • Promote safe, active play while encouraging children to explore and discover.

Foster Positive Relationships

  • Build warm, responsive relationships with children that promote emotional security and confidence.
  • Use gentle, positive guidance to support social-emotional development and peer interactions.
  • Help children develop independence, cooperation, and self-help skills.

Assist with Classroom Care

  • Prepare and maintain learning materials, activity centers, and classroom spaces.
  • Support daily routines including meals, snacks, rest time, toileting, handwashing, transitions, and cleanup.
  • Help maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming environment.

Ensure Health & Safety

  • Practice active supervision indoors and outdoors at all times.
  • Follow all licensing regulations, health and safety procedures, and ABC Academy policies.
  • Assist with maintaining accurate attendance, health, and classroom documentation as needed.

Collaborate with the Team

  • Work closely with the Lead Teacher and classroom team to support children’s learning and well-being.
  • Communicate respectfully and professionally with families, colleagues, and administrators.
  • Participate in staff meetings, training, and professional development opportunities.
