Job description

Position Title: Wine Steward

 

Department:   Wines and Spirits

 

Supervisor:     Assistant Branch Manager/Branch Manager

 

FLSA:             Non-exempt (Paid by the hour)

Position Summary:

Responsible for receiving product and ensures that aisles are stocked, labeled, clean and delivered product is packed out, and proper customer service is provided.

 

Essential Functions:

  1. Must know and comply with all State and Local laws regarding the wholesale of alcohol (beer, wine, liquor, and spirits).
  2. Demonstrate wine and spirits knowledge to see to customers in the branch
  3. Ensure proper customer service and work with Field Marketing Representatives, Branch Manager and department managers to develop relationships with large customers and sign up new accounts.
  4. Enforce license limitations by only selling to customers the items they are licensed for.
  5. Enter customer license information into JSS and maintain database of customer contact information.
  6. Ensure that payment methods are in compliance with State and local regulations. (For example: NYS does not permit credit cards as a payment method.)
  7. Build and maintain floor displays
  8. Maintain clear and accurate record of in store use of product
  9. Maintain accurate prices of product
  10. Maintain shelves well stocked and organized.
  11. Post POS signs, pricing, sales and when possible calendar of events.
  12. Communicate inventory needs
  13. Work in different locations as needed.

Other Responsibilities:

  1. Performs other duties as required and assigned.

Education, Experience and Skills Required:

  1. High School Diploma OR GED with at least 4 years experience in customer service, OR any appropriate combination of education and experience.
  2. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, customers, and general public
  3. Effective communication skills.
  4. High level of interpersonal skills.
  5. Commitment to company values and strong customer orientation.
  6. Valid Driver’s License.
  7. Ability and availability to travel on a frequent basis
  8. Computer Literacy

Physical Requirements:

  1. Lift/Carry Abilities (measured for maximum or average load)
  2. Lift – 50 lbs
  3. Carry strength (50’ or less) – 50 lbs
  4. Frequent lift/carry (> 12x/hour) – 50 lbs
  5. Constant lift/carry (> 30x/hr) – 20 lbs
  6. Physical Aptitudes (rated based on level of skill involved)
  7. Agility/dynamic balance 80-100%
  8. Finger dexterity – 80-100%
  9. Manual dexterity – 80 – 100%
  10. Posture Tolerance (rated based on frequency or time involved)
  11. Stand/walk – constantly
  12. Reach above shoulder level – frequently
  13. Twist/turn head – occasionally
  14. Bend over/stoop – frequently
  15. Climb steps/ladder – occasionally
  16. Kneel/squat - occasionally

Work Environment:

  1. Equipment in motion (forklifts, electric pallet jacks, scooters)
