As of Jul 27, 2026, the average hourly pay for wheelchair sales in the United States is $16.05, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $13.46 and $17.31 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What companies hire people in wheelchairs?

Many companies across various industries hire individuals in wheelchairs, including retail, healthcare, technology, and customer service sectors. Employers often focus on skills and experience rather than physical ability, and workplace accommodations are common to support employees with disabilities.

What type of medical device reps make the most money?

In the medical device sales field, representatives selling high-value, complex equipment such as surgical devices, imaging systems, or implantable devices tend to earn higher commissions and salaries. Wheelchair sales representatives generally earn less than those selling specialized or high-cost medical devices, as compensation often depends on product price and sales volume. Success in this role may also require technical knowledge and strong customer relationships.

What are wheelchair sales?

Wheelchair sales involve the process of selling wheelchairs and related mobility equipment to individuals, healthcare facilities, and organizations. Professionals in this field help customers choose the right wheelchair based on their mobility needs, budget, and lifestyle. This may include manual wheelchairs, power wheelchairs, and accessories. Wheelchair sales representatives often provide product demonstrations, assist with insurance or funding paperwork, and offer after-sales support. The goal is to ensure that clients receive a mobility solution that best fits their requirements.

What are the most common challenges faced in wheelchair sales, and how can I overcome them?

One of the main challenges in wheelchair sales is understanding the specific mobility needs of each client and matching them with the right product. You’ll often need to navigate a wide range of product features, insurance requirements, and funding sources, which can be complex. Successful sales professionals in this role build strong relationships with healthcare providers and stay updated on product innovations. Clear communication, empathy, and strong product knowledge are key to overcoming these challenges and ensuring customer satisfaction.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in Wheelchair Sales, and why are they important?

To thrive in Wheelchair Sales, you need a solid understanding of mobility equipment, sales techniques, and often a background in healthcare or assistive technology. Familiarity with CRM software, product management systems, and sometimes certifications in medical device sales are commonly required. Outstanding interpersonal skills, empathy, and the ability to educate and build trust with clients are crucial soft skills. These competencies ensure you can effectively match clients with the right mobility solutions, fostering customer satisfaction and driving business success.

Is it hard to get a job in medical device sales?

Getting a job in medical device sales, including wheelchair sales, can be competitive and often requires relevant experience, strong communication skills, and industry knowledge. Many roles prefer candidates with a background in healthcare, sales, or certifications such as a medical sales certification. Building relationships and understanding regulatory requirements can also improve job prospects in this field.

What is the difference between Wheelchair Sales vs Mobility Equipment Sales?

AspectWheelchair SalesMobility Equipment Sales

Work EnvironmentMedical supply stores, showrooms, client homesMedical supply stores, rehabilitation centers, client homes
Industry UsagePrimarily focused on wheelchairsIncludes wheelchairs, scooters, walkers, and other mobility aids
Search & Comparison IntentPeople comparing wheelchair options or seeking specific modelsPeople exploring various mobility solutions for different needs

While both roles involve selling mobility devices, Wheelchair Sales focuses specifically on wheelchairs, requiring specialized knowledge of different models and features. Mobility Equipment Sales covers a broader range of products, including scooters, walkers, and other aids, appealing to customers with diverse mobility needs. Understanding these differences helps customers find the right products and sales professionals with appropriate expertise.

Can you make $500,000 a year in sales?

In wheelchair sales, earning $500,000 annually is possible but typically requires high sales volume, strong customer relationships, and experience in the industry. Most sales representatives earn commissions based on sales performance, so reaching this level depends on individual skill, market demand, and sales targets. Achieving such income often involves advanced sales techniques and a deep understanding of mobility products.
