Our client is an established and well-known brand specializing in high-quality, responsibly sourced and manufactured athletic apparel that functions as both gym and streetwear. They have both a thriving e-commerce business and brick-and-mortar retail stores. With a rapidly expanding global retail footprint of 200+ stores and ambitious international growth plans, the company is scaling its corporate infrastructure to match its trajectory. They are seeking a Director of Retail Workforce Management & Business Planning to serve as an enterprise leader who will own and evolve their global WFM and business planning capabilities. This is a high-impact, highly visible role sitting at the intersection of retail operations, financial planning, and labor strategy—ideal for a seasoned professional who thrives in high-growth, build-oriented environments.
This is primarily an in-person role, reporting to our client’s offices in Los Angeles.
Responsibilities:
- Own the annual bottoms-up budgeting process for all retail locations globally, spanning sales, labor, and additional P&L line items
- Oversee performance reporting that bridges forecasts to actuals, providing clear visibility into store-level results for field and executive leadership
- Oversee and continuously refine reforecasting capabilities that support product buys, promotional planning, monthly goal-setting, and broader business planning
- Partner with Technology, Data, and Analytics teams to enhance forecasting models, expand reporting capabilities, and increase self-service access to insights for field leaders
- Leverage and build AI-powered tools to automate and improve forecasting accuracy and planning efficiency
- Develop the company's annual bottoms-up labor budget in close partnership with Operations and Finance leadership
- Track labor performance against plan, proactively identify risks and opportunities, and partner cross-functionally to drive productivity and cost outcomes
- Own WFM KPIs including labor rate, labor productivity, forecast accuracy, and schedule effectiveness—driving continuous improvement across field and functional teams
- Partner with WFM platform vendors to refine and optimize labor forecasting and auto-scheduling capabilities; develop scheduling playbooks and field guidance to drive consistent labor standards
- Manage store bonus program design, execution, and ongoing administration
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of WFM and planning professionals, fostering a culture of accountability, data-driven decision-making, and continuous improvement
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree, preferred
- 8+ years of experience in retail FP&A, WFM, labor planning, or operations analytics within a large, complex, multi-unit retail organization
- 4+ years of people leadership experience, including managing managers, with a demonstrated track record of building and scaling high-performing teams
- Proven success designing and executing enterprise or multi-region workforce strategies supporting thousands of employees across multiple geographies
- Deep expertise in workforce planning, labor forecasting, scheduling strategy, and labor optimization methodologies
- Experience implementing or transforming workforce management platforms (e.g., Legion, UKG, Kronos, or comparable tools) through a full lifecycle—from requirements and design through build, pilot, and rollout; experience with Legion strongly preferred
- Demonstrated ability to manage large-scale labor budgets and influence P&L outcomes
- Advanced analytical capabilities with the ability to synthesize complex data into executive-level insights and recommendations
- Exceptional cross-functional leadership and influencing skills; comfortable operating in high-growth, build-oriented environments
- Background in premium, omnichannel, or globally expanding apparel, lifestyle, or specialty retail strongly preferred
- Must be based in or willing to relocate to the greater Los Angeles area; willingness to travel domestically and internationally as needed
Compensation: Targeting a base salary of $160,000–$190,000, DOE
