Job description

Pool Monitor (Seasonal) - Residential Apartment Community (Rockland, MA)

Position type: Part-time, seasonal (Late May through early September)

Compensation: $16.00 per hour
Schedule: 8 hours/week, Saturday and/or Sunday (set weekly schedule with management)
Location: Rockland, Massachusetts (on-site pool and pool enclosure)

Summary

The Pool Monitor supports a safe, clean, and orderly pool environment for residents and guests at a semi-public apartment-community swimming pool. This role focuses on customer service, rule enforcement, basic safety observation, and documentation/communication—and is not a lifeguard position.

Key responsibilities

Resident/guest supervision & rule enforcement

  • Greet resident and guests; verify pool access eligibility (wristbands/keys/guest policy as applicable).
  • Maintain orderly use of the pool deck and water; de-escalate conflicts and address unsafe behavior.
  • Enforce posted pool rules consistent with MA requirements.
  • Ensure required health-rule signage is present at the entrance/dressing area (e.g., shower-before-entering; communicable disease restriction).
  • Monitor pool occupancy to ensure it does not exceed posted capacity limits.

Safety observation

  • Observe general pool activity for unsafe conditions or behavior. In the event of an emergency, immediately contact 911.
  • Ensure that required safety and emergency items are present/accessible:
    • Ring buoy/rescue equipment requirements (and rescue hook for outdoor in-ground pools).
    • First-aid kit contents and availability; report missing/expired items.
    • Emergency communication system available and unlocked; emergency numbers posted.
  • Confirm required “WARNING—NO LIFEGUARD ON DUTY” and related supervision signs are conspicuously posted.

Documentation & coordination

  • Maintain a daily shift log, including attendance estimates, incidents, rule violations, and maintenance concerns.
  • Promptly report hazards to management and/or the Certified Pool Operator (CPO) including cloudy water, broken gate latches, missing equipment, etc.
  • Support the operator’s required recordkeeping by communicating observations.

Facility checks (light, non-technical)

  • Conduct opening/closing walkthroughs: gates locked/unlocked per policy, signage visible, deck free of glass/trip hazards, furniture orderly.

Required qualifications

  • Minimum age is 16+.
  • Reliability and ability to work weekends (8 hours on Saturday and/or Sunday).
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to enforce rules in a calm, professional manner.
  • Ability to stand and walk outdoors for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift/carry up to approximately 25 lbs.
