Job description

The Performance Science Specialist serves as a key contributor in a collaborative performance team, integrating sports science data collection and analysis with direct athlete coaching and strength program implementation. Assist the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach in overseeing all aspects of athletic performance. Collect, analyze, and translate performance and physiological data into actionable strategies that minimize injury risk and maximize athletic performance. Support all intercollegiate athletic programs by managing load management initiatives. Responsible for the development of sport-specific weight training regimens for intercollegiate programs, and will design, program, implement and monitor the strength and conditioning program for assigned teams. They will demonstrate, teach and monitor safe lifting techniques to progress athlete performance. Collaborate with the Athletic Training staff to monitor rehabilitation programs and to incorporate load management data to safely return athletes from injury.
Required Education:
Bachelor's Degree in exercise science, kinesiology, sports science, biomechanics or a related field.
Preferred Education:
Master's Degree in exercise science, data science or a performance-related discipline.
Required Experience:
1+ years of experience as a Sport Scientist within a collegiate, professional, or elite private program.
Preferred Experience:
3+ years of experience as a Sport Scientist within a collegiate, professional, or elite private program. Experience as a Strength and Conditioning Coach within a collegiate, professional or elite private program.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
CSCS Certification by the NSCA. Certified in CPR/AED. Requires a working knowledge of NCAA compliance rules. Comfortable and familiar working the the following training methods and technologies: GPS/IMU wearables, force plates, velocity-based training (VBT), motion capture. Experience with athlete management systems and proficiency with Microsoft Office. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt quickly to the needs of various varsity programs. Proficiency teaching olympic lifts. Proficiency designing elite level conditioning and agility programs.
Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Knowledge of NCAA Division III legislation regarding permissible activities by student athletes. Technical proficiency in Tableau, Power BI for data science applications. Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays to support varsity training schedules and competitions.
In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is USD $70,000.00 to USD $77,000.00. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, clinical compensation, or other items.
