Introduction
The Dale City Library is currently hiring a part-time Library Technician to join our dedicated team. This position is designed for a service-oriented professional who thrives in a dynamic environment and enjoys connecting people with essential community programs.
We are looking for an individual with a diverse toolkit-someone who can balance complex problem-solving and detail-oriented tasks with a warm, communicative approach to customer service. Join us in fostering a thriving, inclusive environment for all library patrons.
About This Role:
Performs service desk duties such as checking materials in/out, issuing library cards, resolving library account issues, and helping patrons find materials.
Responds to reference inquiries, such as answering questions related to materials covering patrons' academic, professional, and personal interests.
Responds to readers' advisory requests (locating and requesting titles, authors, and read-alikes) both in person and over the phone.
Regularly assists patrons in the use of copiers, printers, scanners, PCs, personal handheld devices, various software, and web applications.
Spearheads keeping the branch's material collection in good order by running reports, responding to recall requests, rebalancing materials to other branches, performing light reprocessing and repairs, weeding materials for age and condition, and maintaining the Fortunate Finds selection.
Assists with executing branch programming for all age groups.
Makes creative contributions to library displays for all ages.
Opens and closes the building.
Reconciles register receipts and deposits.
Manages the inventory of the Friends of the Library book sale.
Acts as the Person in Charge of the building in the absence of manager,
Attends various work group meetings, school visits, outreach events, library training sessions, and County professional development trainings.
Minimum Requirements:
High school diploma or G.E.D.
Preferences:
1 year customer service experience
Experience working independently and as part of a team
Scheduling flexibility
Experience using technology such as PCs, tablets, smart phones, eReaders, copiers, printers, and Microsoft software
Experience teaching others to use technology such as PCs, smart phones, and office machines
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Experience acting as Person in Charge or keyholder
Experience with an Integrated Library System (ILS) or inventory tracking systems
Special Requirements: The position may require travel to other branches within the system. A DMV check will be conducted for employees who drive while on County business.
Work Schedule:
This is a non-exempt 20 hour per week position. Scheduled hours will fall within the following times:
Monday - Wednesday 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Thursday - Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Hiring Salary Range: $21.14 $32.17/hour
