Senior Library Clerk

Pay Rate: $22.00 per hour + $5.09 per hour Health & Welfare (H&W) Benefit
Zimmerman Associates, Inc. is seeking a Senior Library Clerk to support a project at the Library of Congress in Washington, DC. This role supports Team Leads, the Project Manager, and other project stakeholders by coordinating daily activities, maintaining accurate records, and helping ensure assigned tasks are completed accurately, safely, and within established deadlines on a production-based contract.
Responsibilities
- Support the Project Manager in planning, coordinating, and executing collection shifting projects.
- Coordinate preliminary work across multiple decks, stack areas, and collection locations.
- Integrate and monitor pulling/shifting activities to ensure efficient movement of library collections.
- Conduct inventory verification and maintain accurate tracking of materials and locations.
- Coordinate with Team Leads, Library Clerks, Material Handlers, and library staff to support project objectives.
- Perform quality control reviews to ensure collections are shelved and organized according to classification standards.
- Prepare stacks, staging areas, and materials for shifting, shelving, and relocation projects.
- Maintain records, reports, and documentation related to collection management activities.
- Assist in resolving logistical and operational challenges affecting project timelines with the Project Manager.
- Support preservation efforts by ensuring proper handling and care of library materials.
- Monitor project progress and communicate status updates to management.
- Provide guidance and operational support to staff engaged in pulling ahead of shifting, shelving, and inventory activities.
Qualifications
- High school diploma required; Associate degree or higher preferred.
- Two to three years of experience working in collection management, including performing shifting and integrating, in a large library environment.
- Experience sorting, retrieving, reshelving, organizing, shifting, and transporting library materials throughout a large library system.
- Knowledge of Library of Congress call numbers, the Library of Congress Classification System, and shelf-reading practices.
- Ability to clearly communicate complex procedures to other contract staff.
- Ability to review completed work and perform quality control checks.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to move throughout the work location and lift, push, pull, carry, or hold items weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stoop and lift materials from the floor and bottom shelves.
- Ability to push carts and trucks weighing up to 200 pounds.
- Ability to work in cool and dusty environments.
