About Focus On Renewal: 

The Focus On Renewal Sto-Rox Neighborhood Corporation (FOR) was founded in 1969. FOR founders led a group of mobilized citizens and community activists to create an umbrella organization for much needed social services now ranging from food security, nutrition, early childhood education, support groups and mental health to arts programs for ages and small business incubation. FOR has now grown to house 30+ staff at four locations throughout McKees Rocks and Stowe Township. The Organization provides support to the people in our neighborhood through programs for all ages designed to develop resilient, contributing members of a thriving community. We work with a wide range of partners to ensure high quality programming is accessible to all 13,000 residents of the Sto-Rox Community. 


About the Position: 

Summary 

The Library Assistant is responsible for assisting as needed in library operations, including sorting/shelving books and other resource materials; in-processing library materials, collecting fines, issuing library cards, answering questions and assisting patrons with computer and office equipment use (fax machine, printer, etc.). 


Essential Job Responsibilities: 

Staffs the main circulation desk and assists library patrons with finding and borrowing library materials. 

Assists patrons in using computers and office equipment such as fax machines and copiers/printers. 

Checks library materials in/out and shelves materials in the proper order and place. 

Maintains library users' records, including the confidentiality of their personal information. 

Refers reference questions to the appropriate librarian or appropriate staff member. 

Assists with library programming as requested 

Reports computer or printer issues as necessary. Assists library patrons with the use of personal computers and monitors computer usage; reports computer issues as necessary 

Maintains a clean and clutter-free work area  


Additional Job Responsibilities:

Performs all other duties as assigned


Requirements

 Required Qualifications 

  • High school education or equivalent. Post-secondary education preferred. May substitute appropriate work experience 
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends 
  • Ability to use a personal computer 
  • Detail orientation 
  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to interact with diverse patrons 
  • Act 33/34 clearances 
  • Must be available on the following days:  

Position: Part-Time

  • Experience as a library volunteer or user of library services 
  • Experience working with children and/or teens
