New nurses in the Weekend Labor Delivery Nurse Residency Program typically participate in a structured orientation period, which includes classroom training and hands-on experience alongside experienced labor and delivery nurses. During this phase, residents are paired with preceptors who provide guidance on clinical tasks, patient communication, and emergency procedures unique to labor and delivery. This mentorship helps build confidence and competence in managing common and high-risk situations encountered during weekend shifts. The collaborative environment also fosters strong teamwork and communication skills essential for success in labor and delivery settings.
