Job Description

The Lab Technician role is an entry-level position that does not require a degree and offers an excellent opportunity to gain experience in a professional laboratory environment. The technician supports batch release processes, documentation, and inventory management while assisting with basic lab preparation and organization. This position combines desk-based documentation and data entry with hands-on work in the lab and on the production floor, providing broad exposure to quality control, sample handling, and laboratory operations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform extensive documentation and data entry to ensure all information is accurate, complete, and recorded correctly.
  • Manage inventory for materials on hold or in quarantine, ensuring proper tracking and status updates.
  • Participate in batch release processes by supporting documentation, sample handling, and coordination with relevant teams.
  • Release all raw materials, inactive and active materials, and finished goods in accordance with established procedures.
  • Coordinate and process third-party contract releases, ensuring accurate documentation and communication.
  • Handle customer sample releases, including all communication with customers and proper documentation of activities.
  • Maintain stability commitments by ensuring all stability samples are collected and stored under appropriate conditions.
  • Pull stability samples at the beginning of each month and ensure they are processed according to procedures.
  • Sample and handle all raw materials, inactive and active materials, and finished goods in alignment with quality and safety standards.
  • Approve containers for use by verifying they meet specified requirements.
  • Generate specification sheets for testing to support laboratory scientists and quality control activities.
  • Track all annual testing requirements and maintain accurate entries in the appropriate log books.
  • Coordinate with the production team to align sampling schedules with production activities.
  • Maintain record retention for seven years for all papers and samples, ensuring compliance with documentation requirements.
  • Archive records and samples appropriately to support long-term traceability and audits.
  • Update and maintain all master files to ensure current and accurate information is available.
  • Update and maintain all standard operating procedures (SOPs) for production and laboratory operations.
  • Maintain and update the index log for master logs to ensure easy access and traceability of documents.
  • Maintain approved vendor letters and perform vendor verification activities as required.
  • Set up laboratory equipment for basic testing and preparation activities.
  • Perform basic lab preparation, including media preparation, organization of lab spaces, and supporting scientists with routine tasks.
  • Wash laboratory dishes and glassware to maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Weigh samples accurately and perform basic sample preparation in the lab area behind the desk.
  • Label samples and containers correctly to ensure traceability and prevent mix-ups.
  • Collaborate with the production team on the production floor to perform sampling of products and support quality control processes.
  • Support microbiology and biology-related lab activities as needed, under the guidance of scientists.
  • Demonstrate consistent attention to detail and a high level of initiative in all tasks to support overall lab quality and efficiency.
Essential Skills
  • Experience with document control, including updating, maintaining, and archiving records and master files.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform documentation review and data entry with strong attention to detail.
  • Experience with basic lab preparation, including setting up equipment, media preparation, and organizing lab spaces.
  • Familiarity with laboratory environments and interest in working in a lab setting.
  • Experience with inventory management and inventory control, particularly for materials on hold or in quarantine.
  • Ability to support batch records and batch release processes through accurate documentation and sample handling.
  • Experience with labeling, handling, and tracking samples and containers in a lab or production environment.
  • Comfort working with lab equipment and performing basic maintenance tasks such as dishwashing and equipment setup.
  • Understanding of good manufacturing practices (GMP) and quality control (QC) concepts.
  • Basic exposure to microbiology or biology, either through previous work or training.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in all tasks, particularly documentation and sample handling.
  • High level of initiative and willingness to take ownership of tasks and follow through.
  • Prior documentation experience in a lab, production, or quality environment.
  • Ability to coordinate with production and lab teams and communicate clearly about sampling and release activities.

Work Environment

The Lab Technician works in a mixed environment that includes desk work, laboratory activities, and time on the production floor and in the warehouse. Approximately 60% of the day is spent at a desk in the sample preparation area, focusing on paperwork, record keeping, and data entry. The remaining time is spent on the production floor performing product sampling, interacting with the production team, and conducting basic sample preparation in a small lab area behind the desk. The role involves routine use of lab equipment, dishwashing and cleaning of glassware, weighing samples, and preparing materials for scientists. The team operates as a close-knit group, fostering a supportive and collaborative atmosphere. The position offers a strong opportunity to gain a foothold in a rapidly growing organization and to build practical experience across lab, warehouse, and production settings.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Omaha, NE.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $19.00/hr.
