Location: Bennington, VT
Pay Rate: Starting at $17.75 per hour

Reports To: Kitchen Manager
Job Summary
VPI is seeking a Full-Time Kitchen Assistant (Cook)to join our food services team in Bennington, VT. This plays a vital role in supporting our residential treatment program by preparing and delivering quality meals for the youth we serve. This position follows established menus, ensures food safety and cleanliness, maintains accurate records, and collaborates with the treatment team to support daily program operations.
Work Schedule
This is a consistent full-time schedule that includes:
  • One weekend day (either Saturday or Sunday) โ€“ 10-hour shift
  • Wednesday โ€“ 6-hour shift
  • Two other weekdays โ€“ 12-hour shifts each
Essential Duties amp; Responsibilities
The Kitchen Staff Assistant functions as part of the treatment team and is responsible for the preparation, delivery, and documentation of meals and kitchen supplies.
Key responsibilities include:
  • Prepare and cook meals according to posted menus and schedules following SERV Safe standards
  • Maintain cleanliness, organization, and sanitation of the kitchen
  • Complete temperature logs, production records, and other required documentation
  • Receive, log, rotate, and track food inventory
  • Fill kitchen and food supply orders
  • Deliver meals and supplies to dorms as assigned
  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding all students
  • Communicate effectively through appropriate channels and follow chain of command
  • Understand and support VPIโ€™s program philosophy and administrative structure
  • Accurately punch in and out for assigned shifts
  • Represent VPI professionally to students, families, and community partners
  • Follow all company policies and procedures
  • Perform all duties necessary to ensure high-quality food service for the youth we serve
  • Other duties as assigned
Requirements amp; Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Must be 21 years of age or older
  • Preferred: At least two (2) years of experience working with children or youth, such as camp counselor, coach, or babysitter
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
  • Valid driverโ€™s license required
Physical Demands amp; Work Environment
  • Regularly required to talk and hear
  • Frequently required to stand, walk, and sit
  • Occasionally required to use hands, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, or balance
  • May occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds
  • Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
  • Work environment may include exposure to wet/humid conditions and extreme heat or cold
  • Noise level is generally low to moderate
