Job description

Join our team at Regions Hospital as a Release of Information Specialist (ROI) in our HIM Call Center.  This position will triage all incoming release of information calls and/or requests and process releases for urgent requests for callers as well as fax requestors with 'patient here now' situations.

  • As a Release of Information Specialist, you will be part of a great team that strives to provide the utmost customer service to their patients/customers, a team that enjoys working together, and a team that has leaders who are supportive. The ROI Specialists take pride in displaying our corporate values of Excellence, Integrity, Compassion and Partnership in all interactions and developing strong working relationships with our ROI vendor team.

Based on job assignments in the department, the ROI Specialists in the HIM Call Center perform various job duties that include: 

  • Opening and triaging the incoming mail, answering all incoming ROI telephone calls, directing patients and customers to our hospital website for appropriate forms, providing information and direction on where to get specific forms from government offices, managing incoming and outgoing ROI faxes, scanning and indexing all ROI authorizations and paperwork related to patient releases. 
  • Understanding and complying at all times with standards set forth by regulatory agencies and rules (TJC, CMS, HIPAA, etc.), protect and maintain patient privacy and confidentiality and show excellent communication and customer service skills, at times under extreme pressure when the office is busy and volumes are up. 
  • Analyzing requests and authorizations to ensure compliance and have a good understanding of all request types: Workman's comp, legal, social security disability determination, continuity of care, patient, audits and insurance verification. 
  • Prioritizing and processing all telephone and fax requests for immediate continuity of care quickly and accurately triage all incoming requests according to HIM procedures and in adherence to state and federal guidelines. 
  • Maintaining a professional and courteous attitude when interacting with all internal and external customers via telephone and in person. 
  • Displaying our corporate values of Excellence, Integrity, Compassion and Partnership at all times and developing strong working relationships with our ROI vendor. 
  • Maintaining presence during normal business hours. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including working in other various roles and functions in HIM or assist in on-call rotation evenings/nights/weekend.

Required Qualifications:

One year of experience in a high-volume health care setting, health information management department, call center or customer service setting. 

OR

Associate Or bachelor's degree in health information management. 

Or 

Related field and/or enrollment in an associate or bachelor's degree program in Health Information Management may substitute for work experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Education: Associate's degree in Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or related field

Experience: 3 years' experience in Health Information Department

Certification: RHIT (Registered Health Information Technician) or RHIA (Registered Health Information Administrator) credentialed.

Work schedule:  FTE: 1.0 (40 hrs. weekly), Monday-Friday, Day Shift

This position is in our HIM Call Center and is a remote position, coming onsite as needed for training and schedule meetings.
