Description

The Competitive Gymnastics Coach is responsible for developing, mentoring, and leading Xcel athletes within Team Dawes, from Bronze through Sapphire levels. Working alongside the Director of Team and fellow coaches, this position supports gymnasts as they progress toward regional and national competitions. The role has a deep understanding of competitive gymnastics, advanced technique, and a passion for athlete development-both on and off the mat. The Competitive Gymnastics Coach brings positive energy, technical knowledge, and a commitment to the holistic success of each athlete in a safe and encouraging environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement skill-appropriate, competition-aligned training plans following USAG standards.
  • Coach athletes to refine advanced gymnastics techniques and build competition-ready routines.
  • Foster a high-performance mindset, guiding athletes in goal-setting, self-discipline, and mental resilience.
  • Prepare athletes for meets by focusing on consistency, confidence, and composure under pressure.
  • Oversee all competition logistics, including choreography, warm-up protocols, equipment checks, and athlete readiness.
  • Attend meets to coach and support athletes, demonstrating leadership and professionalism throughout events.
  • Collaborate effectively with parents, judges, and team staff to support each gymnast's progress and well-being.
  • Maintain compliance with all Dominique Dawes Academy and USAG safety, conduct, and training standards.
  • Stay current on industry updates, rule changes, and best practices in competitive gymnastics.
  • Promote a team culture of excellence, respect, and positivity within the competitive program.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain) preferred

Work Schedule & Environment

  • Evening and weekend coaching hours required
  • Occasional schedule changes for competitions, meetings, or special events
  • Travel required for meets, trainings, and team functions
  • Indoor gym environment with high energy and activity levels

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and move equipment up to 50 lbs.
  • Extended periods of standing, bending, kneeling, and moving throughout the gym
  • Physical ability to spot gymnasts of varying sizes safely during skill training
  • Must be able to observe technique and performance with clarity and attention to safety
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-volume, and often loud environment
