Bars often need a lot of extra hands, especially during the weekend. The weekend is their busiest time of the week, and they usually hire additional bartenders, wait staff, and cooks if they serve food. Bartenders take drink orders, pour, mix, and serve drinks, and keep the bar area clean. Wait staff provides service to the patrons at their assigned tables, or they may take drink orders from people standing around the bar. In this role, you make sure to keep track of which customer ordered which drink, and move quickly so that the customer does not wait long. Cooks prepare and plate food; typical bar food tends to be finger foods, such as chicken wings and dips. Some bars also hire special DJs or live bands on the weekends because of the increased size of the audience. Many of the bar staff work a few days during the week as well as the weekend, but some only work on the weekends.
