Job description

Portland, OR / Vancouver, WA.
$79,040 – $102,960 + ESOP + Benefits.
Join a Stable, Employee-Owned Company with Real Growth Opportunity.
Metro Safety & Fire has been protecting businesses in the Portland/Vancouver region since 1983. As an employee-owned company (ESOP), our team shares in the success we build together.
Over the past two years, we’ve grown 16% and are focused on building a strong, sustainable future. We’re looking for an Accounting Manager who wants more than just a back-office role—someone who wants to be part of a team, contribute to decisions, and help support a growing business.
Why This Role Stands Out:
  • Employee Ownership (ESOP) – build long-term wealth alongside the company.
  • Stable, established company (40+ years) with consistent growth.
  • Work/life balance matters – we encourage you to use your PTO.
  • Supportive, team-oriented culture – we value people, not just roles.
  • Opportunity to make an impact in a visible, trusted position.
What You’ll Do:
You’ll oversee day-to-day accounting operations while also supporting leadership with clear, reliable financial information.
Core Responsibilities:
  • Manage daily accounting functions (AP, AR, general ledger, reconciliations).
  • Oversee month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Prepare accurate financial statements and reports.
  • Monitor cash flow and support budgeting and forecasting.
  • Maintain organized, audit-ready financial records.
  • Ensure compliance with financial policies and regulations.
Business Support:
  • Partner with leadership to provide financial insights.
  • Help track performance against budgets and goals.
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes and efficiency.
  • Support department leaders with financial visibility.
What Success Looks Like:
  • Accurate and timely monthly financial reporting.
  • Strong control of accounts receivable and payable.
  • Clear visibility into financial performance and cash flow.
  • Organized, consistent, and reliable financial processes.
What We’re Looking For:
Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 5+ years of accounting experience.
  • 2+ years of leadership or supervisory experience.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting.
  • High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
Preferred (but not required):
  • Experience in construction, service, or project-based accounting.
  • Experience with QuickBooks or similar accounting systems.
  • Experience improving or building financial processes.
Who You Are:
  • Accountable and reliable — you take ownership of your work.
  • Organized and detail-oriented.
  • Comfortable working in a structured, process-driven environment.
  • Clear communicator who can explain financials to non-financial team members.
  • Proactive problem-solver.
Compensation & Benefits:
  • Starting Salary: $79,040 annually.
  • Growth Potential: Up to $102,960 within 2 years.
  • Health & Dental Insurance.
  • 401(k) with Roth option + Employer Match.
  • Paid Continuing Education & Training.
  • Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP).
  • Family-oriented, pet-friendly workplace.
About Metro Safety & Fire:
We provide fire/life safety equipment and services including fire extinguishers, suppression systems, fire alarms, and sprinkler systems for businesses throughout the region. Our mission is simple: protect people, property, and peace of mind.
Core Values:
