Senior Union Representative/Organizer-URC
SEIU Local 1000 is a progressive public sector labor union representing over 96,000 California state employees in ten different bargaining units. We negotiate and enforce a complex contract that ensures good working conditions, fair wages and secure health care and retirement benefits.
We are seeking a Senior Union Representative/Organizer for our Union Resource Center in Sacramento, CA. If you're passionate about representation and leadership, a tireless advocate for the rank-and-file and excel at both strategy and tactics of influencing others towards collective action, please apply.
Senior Representatives should be proficient in the following activities:
• Serve as, or assist, the lead staff negotiator in negotiating bargaining unit side tables or complex statewide meet and confers, and coordinate the statewide activities of assigned bargaining units or departments.
• Represent individuals or the Union in arbitration or final level hearings (excluding expedited arbitration) and assist in preparation of required briefs or exhibits or preparation of witnesses.
• Plan and execute member actions, plan and implement successful voter identification, COPE fundraising and GOTV efforts.
• Plan and coordinate internal and /or external organizing campaigns or components of contract campaigns, including leadership of staff and active member organizing committees, coordination of research, communications, legal and field components, planning and execution of member actions, planning and implementation of successful GOTV efforts, and the ability to anticipate and respond to employer tactics.
• Provide leadership, mentoring and training in the areas listed above to OITs and/or Union Representatives.
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:
  • Prior experience negotiating contracts and writing contract language.
  • Knowledge of California's State Personnel Board, California Department of Human Resources, and individual State Departments.
  • Ability to establish and maintain rapport and credibility with diverse demographic groups, as well as with professional, technical, administrative and service workers.
  • Ability to travel to key meetings, including weekend meetings.
  • Ability to work long, irregular hours.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely

Benefits:
The salary range for this position is $102,552 to $121,764 annually.
