Job description

Academic Advising & Student Development Duties:

  • Under the guidance of leadership, presents academic and program information to new first-year and transfer students and their guests at New Student Orientation and processes students for readmission.
  • Guides students through academic planning, degree requirements, and university policies.
  • Applies transfer credits from other academic institutions to student's degree programs (based on established articulation rules and precedents).
  • Builds meaningful relationships through proactive advising and individualized student support.
  • Supports orientation, retention, and graduation initiatives.
  • With leadership, identifies or evaluates options for students who must petition for an exception to a course or program requirement; makes adjustments to students' programs of study once approved.
  • Monitors academic progress of students utilizing existing dashboards and reports; identifies current and potential needs or problem areas (e.g., study skills, tutoring) and connects students with campus resources that promote academic success and well-being.
  • Assesses students' stage of development (academic, career, and personal) to promote academic growth by recommending suitable developmental tasks and engagement opportunities.

Advising Program & Additional Student Support:

  • Reports to leadership on student barriers encountered during advising sessions.
  • In collaboration with leadership, may assist with offering seminars, workshops, and other activities/events for student onboarding, building community, academic recovery, student engagement, graduation, and/or student retention as time allows.

Administrative:

  • With direction from leadership, may assist with manual enrollment into department courses, including research, preceptorships, and internships for university credit.
  • Processes degree audit worksheets for students planning to graduate.
  • May assist with the planning and implementation of college and department events.
