Join us at Grand Canyon Education and begin your career helping Grand Canyon University students succeed! The role of the GCU Associate Counselor (GAC) is an entry-level position within the GCU Graduate Development

Program. This program is designed to provide recent GCU graduates with structured training, mentorship, and hands-on professional experience that develop future leaders in higher education, customer service, enrollment management, and student success.


The GCU Associate Counselor serves as a primary point of contact for prospective and newly enrolled students, guiding them through the admissions process and supporting their transition into the university community. This

role offers an excellent opportunity for individuals seeking to gain valuable professional experience while developing leadership and business skills in a mission-driven environment.

Starting salary is $40,000 per year

Grand Canyon Education offers a generous benefits package, including 100% tuition-free education for employees through the Master's degree program level and 75% coverage at the Doctorate degree program level. In addition, an employee's spouse, children and dependents are also offered generous tuition benefits.

This position is a Phoenix, AZ based role on campus and the schedule is four - 9 hour days per week.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contacts inquiring online prospects via the telephone in a timely manner, informing them about the University and its programs

  • Provides necessary steps for prospective to receive a pre-evaluation

  • Represents GCU as an educated advisor, familiar with higher education and assists students through the various steps as part of their decision-making process

  • Shares knowledge of University processes and procedures for admission, transfer credit evaluation, etc.

  • Stays up to date on policy and procedural changes, incorporating those changes into daily operations as established by the University's Employee Development department and Management

  • Determines if the University has a program that will meet the prospect's needs by listening, probing, recognizing and considering the needs of the prospect and GCU's degrees

  • Appropriately guides each prospect to a program that will meet the prospect's needs and answers any questions they may have about program requirements, transfer credits, admission guidelines, etc.

  • Participates in ongoing mentorship programs and leadership preparation courses

  • Communicates GCU's values, benefits and differentiating features to prospects in a professional and academically-oriented manner

  • Discusses payment options and answers questions to help the student make an informed decision about how to pay for school

  • Serves as the primary point of contact to a student who is interested in applying to the University

  • Accurately shares university expectations to ensure the long-term success of enrolled students

  • Communicates and helps students use the services GCU provides to help them progress through the program

  • Maintains professional demeanor with all internal and external stakeholders, communicating appropriately with all parties

  • Monitors student activity in the classroom and other established benchmarks to ensure academic progression

  • Achieves daily, weekly and monthly goals, as defined by supervisor and department objectives.

  • Adheres to all regulatory compliance guidelines, such as FERPA and DNC requirements

  • Proficient in MS Office Suite

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree acquired within the last two years

  • Previous internship, campus leadership, volunteer, customer service, sales or related experience is preferred

  • Demonstrated interest in professional development and career growth

  • Prefer experience in higher education and/or a learning environment which involved daily interaction with students.

  • Cannot be delinquent or in default on a federal student loan as verified in your credit report. If in a rehabilitation program, your credit report must reflect that you are current, not delinquent, on your payments.

  • Must pass pre-employment background investigations.
