Pre-Admission Testing RN Nurse - PRN

The Pre Admission Testing RN Nurse at Morgan Medical Center plays a critical role in preparing patients for upcoming surgical or diagnostic procedures by conducting thorough pre-admission assessments. This position ensures that patients are medically optimized and informed prior to admission, thereby enhancing patient safety and improving clinical outcomes. The nurse collaborates closely with physicians, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to review medical histories, perform necessary screenings, and identify any potential risks or contraindications. Additionally, the role involves educating patients about their procedures, answering questions, and providing emotional support to alleviate anxiety. Ultimately, this position contributes to a seamless admission process and supports the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care within the healthcare facility.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive pre-admission nursing assessments including reviewing patient medical histories, medications, allergies, and previous surgical experiences.
  • Perform necessary diagnostic tests and screenings such as vital signs, EKGs, and laboratory specimen collection to evaluate patient readiness for procedures.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to communicate findings, clarify orders, and ensure all preoperative requirements are met.
  • Educate patients and their families about the pre-admission process, procedural expectations, and post-procedure care instructions.
  • Document all assessments, test results, and patient interactions accurately in the electronic health record system.
  • Identify and escalate any patient safety concerns or contraindications to the appropriate healthcare providers promptly.
  • Maintain compliance with hospital policies, regulatory standards, and infection control protocols.

Skills:

The Pre Admission Testing RN Nurse utilizes clinical assessment skills daily to evaluate patient health status and identify potential risks before procedures. Effective communication skills are essential for educating patients and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure coordinated care. Critical thinking and problem-solving skills are applied to interpret diagnostic data and escalate concerns appropriately. Additionally, empathy and patient-centered care skills help in providing emotional support and building trust with patients during the pre-admission process.

Requirements:

  • Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of employment.
  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program (Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Nursing).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Minimum of 1 year clinical nursing experience, preferably in pre-admission testing, perioperative, or ambulatory care settings.
  • Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) documentation.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree.
  • Advanced certifications such as Certified Ambulatory Peri anesthesia Nurse (CAPA) or Certified Preoperative Nurse (CPN).
  • Experience working in a hospital pre-admission testing or surgical services department.
  • Knowledge of perioperative nursing standards and protocols.
  • Strong familiarity with patient education techniques and health literacy principles.
